  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Bruce Naigles - From a philosophical standpoint, all that we perceive in the world of form is an outer expression of an inner dynamic. Though my work is predominantly figurative, I find it to be the art of giving form to the formless; ideas, emotions, relationships, events. These are by their very nature intangible and essentially abstract, though they continually alter and effect our physical reality. We read them through our intuitive understanding of body language, much as snow blown about on a winter's day reveals the invisible movement and form of the wind. To 'clothe' these subliminal qualities in human figures and bring them forth in a sculpture, whether it be a simple figure inspired by a model's beauty or an allegory of our human condition, is the basic goal and driving force in my work. ...

Bruce Naigles - Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Luis Guillermo Ramírez Ezquerra - Luis RE. Artist statment. Versus: sobre Borderline borderline [boer-der-lain] s. Limite, orilla, frontera.- a. Incierto, dudoso.

Rosemarie Gleiser - The use of a nude human body in my artwork gives place to two concepts: in the first place it is to speak about the mind, the transparent and plastic essence of the being as well as its frailty and vulnerability. In second place, and paradoxically it corresponds to the image of the body as an object, the body as an action field for relationships to take place, and of the body as a doubly mutilated fragment (due to photography framing and for any kind of injure against the human being). The mind concept is elaborated in my work by means of plastics that represent for me a border between the material and the unsubstancial. While the warmth of the body or its surface, represent for me the hair, the photographic image as well as the printmaking papers. In this sense, plastics work as a metaphor for the mind and the clarity of thoughts. The fragility of that border allow us to see through our bodies. If formerly I used evanescent materials in order to manifest what was happening beneath that skin or within those thoughts, now with the hair drawings I am representing the tensions generated between human beings...

Dragutin Barac - "The eyes are reflection of the soul" So and my art speaks about me. Sensitive and refined sense of observation created me as the artist with both, painting and photography skill.I started paint in watercolour technique. After I visited London and Amsterdam, where I spent three years, I slightly changed my view of life; started with another approach of art - PHOTOGRAPHY. Spending most of the time in different places, mainly by nature, I become fascinated with Mediterranean mysticism what is everywhere visible. I am a member of CROATIAN FREELANCE ARTISTS ASSOCIATION and CROATIAN FINE-ART ARTISTS ASSOCIATION. I have been working as freelance for a twenty years....

Christine Dumbsky - "Paintings of women" In the best cases they are portrayals of women, by women. However, the artist, Christine Dumbsky from Sommerach, divests this notion of its'perceived pre-set programme that seems often to delve into the realms of Womens Liberation; at least at first sight. Christine Dumbsky's women appear to project the image of wanting to share their world with those outside. In fact, they provoke the viewer to connect with them through the painting by seeming to invite the viewer to touch the sculptural elements included. She does not denegrate her women to objects of male fantasy, and she does not support sexual voyeurism. Because of this, her women retain their secrets but also seem willing and able to share those secrets for the same reason. These are women with yearnings and illusions that wish to be understood. That the artist has a dreamy, romantic streak is not only a pre-requisite for her work, it is also what gives it it`s special charm. Wolf-Dietrich Weissbach (Journalist) ...

Alexandre Nodopaka - 1. To portray ideas in a fresh style, but most important I was Born for Art, I Live for Art and will die for Art. 2. Abstraction in art is the greatest spiritual meditation & an ideal cerebral masturbation. 3. Photography killed representational art some 150 years ago. The computer killed abstract art. Today, thousands abstracts can be created in a day, they may be worth a thousand words but not a penny! 1.

Walter Spaeth - Walter Spaeth was born 1952 in Munsingen / Germany Ever since he was a very young boy it has been one of Walter Spaeth`s dream to express his ideas and inspirations. And so it doesn`t come as a surprise that photography soon attracted his attention. At the age of twenty he discovered the creative and technical possibilities of this medium in the black-and-white lab of a friend and began thinking about how it could help him realize his dream. In 1972, though, photography was far less sophisticated than it is today. It proved to be an advantage, as Walter Spaeth spent his first years concentrating on the basic techniques and principles of composition. He thoroughy learned the craft and perfected his skills. In the mid-90`s then the full extent of his creativity became apparent. Computers made their appearance in the photo scene and allowed the editing of pictures, something which Spaeth started doing with great fascination and success. Between 1990 and 2000 Spaeth won more than 30 awards, including Deja-GmbH's 10 000 Mark "Take care" award, which he received in a festive ceremony at the Photokina 2000 in Cologne for his excellent ...

Mark Struzynski - Mark Struzynski Certain Relationships develop in our minds, between quite dissimilar objects, ideas, smells, etc.. These relationships are abstract, often unconscious, and unclear. Mark Struzynski was born in Chicago, IL. in 1957. He became immersed in art while living in Copenhagen, being befriended by students, graduates and Professors at The Art Academy of Copenhagen. He attended lectures and read every art book in the Art Library, as his 'art education'. At the time, that he was living in, Copenhagen he was involved with the Photographic process, how photographs are thought of as being direct transfers of reality, but actually remove or miss a certain amount of detail and the effect of these 'mistakes'. These musings led him to working with Photo-emulsion canvass, developing photos of drawings, which were derived from both found and self-taken photographs onto the Photo-Canvass9see web-site www.markart.org for examples). Upon returning to his hometown Chicago, he returned to painting working with different layers both physically (textured paint and images on top of each other) and mentally, (the different layers of dreams). These paintings seem to develop into a series, which was named Untitled Box Series (see web-site www.markart.org). ...
