Artists Describing Their Art:

Storm Selby - I am self taught and have always needed to create. I am driven by this inner need. I painted my first painting (in secret) that summer ~ Red High Heel and Serpent. Then I started experimenting with assemblages, including "Life on the Rocks" series....because my life was on the rocks. These have been adopted by some of my friends and now reside in beautiful gardens. Hobo symbols are amongst my favorites....a secret language for wanderers. My art works are an honoring of the soul and life journey. It is healing for ancient wounds, and the calming of my fears and anxiety. My works are very personal ~ most have been promised to my children and grandchildren. ...

Nicola Lupoli - Hello and Welcome! My name is Nicola Lupoli, and I am an Artist from Boston Ma. I have been an Artist all my life having grown up in a family of Artists and Art lovers. Primarily self taught, my greatest influences are my late Artist brother Domenic and studying the paintings and styles of the Old Masters. My primary interest is in the area of portraiture. For me nothing captures the essence of the spirit like a portrait; it can be very challenging to execute but very rewarding when it finally comes together. I love the way a portrait captures a moment in the life of the subject and perhaps makes you wonder about them, who they are or were and what that person was about. I hope that when I produce a portrait it is more than just a static image but causes the observer to wonder about the subject and feel something of their spirit and emotion. The medium I prefer to work in is oil, I love the richness and the qualities that it produces I think it is particularly well suited to the kind of work that I do. Best Wishes, Nicola ...

Ulrich Osterloh - Born in Germany in 1969, I am an artist with a BA hons degree in Fine Art from the University of London, Goldsmiths College. Originally a painter, for the last four years I have been focusing mainly on photography and digital experimentation. Ulrich Osterloh ...

Dorothy Nuckolls - I am a self taught artist. I have been painting for about 30 years. My love of art began as a child. The awesome beauty of nature and the magic of color always intrigued me. To reproduce God's art; wheather it be outdoor sences, or portairts; has always been a goal for me. I started doing portairts in 2002 and realize that, that was what I really loved to do.Now I specialize mostly in portairts. I hope you enjoy my collection as much as I enjoyed painting it. Dorothy Nuckolls...

Dorothy Nuckolls - Jeanette Jarmon - My work is diversified and without just one look. Depending on the message and mood when I create, the styles will change. I work with all sizes and in a variety of media. My work encompasses both detail, realism and abstraction. I may do detail pencil work, portraits, landscapes, stilllifes, spiritual expressionism. Ususally painting, I also create three-diemsnional work and also paint furniture. I do a little bit of a lot of things. I work from realism to abstract expressionism. I like variety, so my work reflects that. I like a challange and will try something new with a sense of discovery maybe to never do that type art again. But the mainstay of art media for me are oil paints. Murals are done in acrylic. Variety is the spice of life. ...

Catherine F. Botch - Artist Statement for Catherine Botch Art is play- the possibilities, "the what ifs",diverse perceptions! Ideas come and haunt me till I can reveal them through my Art. As an artist, I am pulled to observe and examine then document, translate, interpret, affect and effect through my perception and understanding of what takes place around me. From Order, I make Chaos then, ascertain a path to Reorder into a new visual statement. Art becomes an adventure inviting discovery, an intriguing problem or a puzzle calling me to unravel and explore. I enjoy working in a variety of media. I pick the one that will best portray what I wish to tell. My work tends to use mixed media, lately. The collage influence is becoming stronger. I enjoy using the traditional formats and bringing it to the new technology of today. Textiles and Quilting have always been very mathematically based, lending itself to the digital format of today's technology, fused with the artistic use of color theory. Quilting also is based in the compositional qualities used in collage, replacing paper with cloth. Textile Sculptures use the idea of mixing materials for contrast and embellishment. I use these basic qualities to ...

Raphael Perez Israeli Painter - Pride and Prejudice: on Raphael Perez's Artwork Raphael Perez, born in 1965, studied art at the College of Visual Arts in Beer Sheva, and from 1995 has been living and working in his studio in Tel Aviv. In 2003-4 his paintings and studio appeared in a full-length movie, three student films and two graduation films. Raphael Perez is the first Israeli artist to express his lifestyle as a Gay. His life and the life of the LGBT community are connected and unfold over hundreds of artwork pieces. His art creation is rare and extraordinary by every Israeli and international artistic standard. His sources of inspiration ...

Romy Galicia - Creating a fine art in any medium, style or genre is an expression of my inner self... chaotic yet exudes itself into some form of order and structure that is conforming to my outside self and the world I struggle to recreate. My ever-growing fascination of colors, shapes, lines, textures serve as the building block and foundation to recreate and reexamine order, solidity, movement and style that manifest itself into my ever-increasing and ever-evolving art portfolio. Photographic images of people, animals, places and man-made and/or natural objects and abstracts are filtered through my mind and become so vivid and real. When I am in a creative mood, I pick up a pen or ink, a brush, an oil or acrylic paint, a canvas and start to reconstruct the images into works of aunthentic fine arts. There is nothing more soothing and refreshing for me to see the final and tangible product ready to be hung and exhibited for the world to see. When people make constructive comments on my artworks, that in itself sufficiently serves as my motivation to create more. If you have some word of encouragement and/or praise, let me know. You ...

Jessica Dunn -

Alan Moores - These paintings were mainly done in response to a family illness...which resulted in my using old photographs as a way of attempting to revive a parent's failing memory. They then became a way of exploring my own experiences and of trying to find out "who I really am" and "where I really come from"....

Sabra Schmudde - The exploration of human form and spirit has fascinated me most of my artistic life. The requirements for living are common themes in my art...shelter, food, love, sexuality, communication, beauty, death, and especially the spirit of the soul. As a potter, I always wanted to know what energies influence and direct us to make us who we are. When I found this "new" medium, clay, some of my questions were answered. Ceramics combines minerals from the earth with the heat of fire to create the works of art or functional forms. This becomes a basis of understanding--for what are we but mineral compositions ourselves. Continually exploring the circles of clay on the wheel, I have concluded that clay is more like humanity than anything I have ever known. One or more thrown forms that are perfect circles--or sometimes not so perfect circles--are combined with the human spirit, in containers for human use. I began to explore the ability of the clay's energy to transcend time and the mind, providing the never-ending circle of life and death, again and again. Some images in my pottery are clothed, and some reflect sexuality, love, birth, and death. ...
