Artists Describing Their Art:

Lucille Rella - Color, I can't imagine life without it. We are surrounded by it. Our attention is drawn to it and it creates a variety of moods in our environment. It motivates me to paint. A spectrum of lights and darks, high colors and muted tones get me involved in a painting. The wonderful transparency and spontaneity of the watercolor medium, helps me to utilize these qualities in expressing my art work. ...

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity, and have recently teamed with SAVE THE BAY, a local Rhode Island eco-advocate organization, which receives 30 PER CENT of my proceeds. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. Ive done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorenas studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to ...

Monica Puryear - My paintings and drawings portray personal stories, dreams and fantasies of my deep connection with nature. I frequently use animals and plants that intersect in some way to create a feeling of intimacy and mystery. I use vivid colors and rich details of my subjects in the hope of inticing the viewer into my world to discover and relish the beauty they possess. It is my intention to provide the viewer with a respite from the violent imagery that is so prevalent in our daily lives, so one may enter into a richly colored world in a moment of intense beauty....

Renee Rutana - As a child, I was fascinated by the vibrant colors of sunsets, the seasons, flowers and certain landscapes. But all of my life I have suffered from severe asthma. While the other children were outside enjoying the snow or jumping in the fallen leaves, blooming flowers of spring, etc. I was inside, looking out the window wishing I could be a part of it. I would never have acquired my artistic skills if it hadn't been for my asthma. I learned to draw and paint, due to many times staying home in bed or at the hospitals (for a couple weeks at a time)with not much to do. It was my escape, a cherished place I could create and imagine I was there instead. While these days my asthma is better, thanks to new medications, I still feel the joy in my heart of creating a special window to the world, my world, for those also interested to see too. My goal as an artist was to paint these subjects capturing the very things that change quickly due to the season or weather or aging. I wanted to shed light on every day things that many people take ...

Chad A. Carino - A quality which defines the life of any urban artist is the visible entropy surrounding us in the form of decay and despoilation of the desolation defining post-industrial urban America. Simply put, we live in darkness. This quality bends and controls me, defining my work, decaying into darkness and chaos. A solid idea will find itself dissolving into a series of dark scribbles, and a simple concept will belie its ultimate complexity. These images find themselves hovering between unconsiousness and depression; ultimately, cold, dark, and dead, like any planet or person....

Lelia Demello - I have enjoyed the creative process since early childhood. My professional career started in the late 80's in the beautiful Islands of Hawaii. Since that time, over 550 original pieces have been acquired by collecors from around the world. I have had over 11 solo shows and participated in numerous museum exhibitions. I have been commissioned to paint over 65 paintings for private and coorporate clients. I am self taught and continue to learn with each new painting....

Steve Sperry - Steve Sperry Tampa, Florida - Mighty Sight Studio Engaged in Art and music from an early age, Steve has worked in a variety of mediums, and has sustained a life long creative energy. A Graduate of the International Academy of Design, he has dedicated nearly a decade to mastering the tools that enable him to create fluidly and expressively in a virtual environment. Enthralled with the freedom and malleability this technology based medium affords, he has fully embraced it as his primary means of expression. His artistic influences are many and varied, including; Andre Masson, Rene Magritte, Jackson Pollock, Kenneth Huff, and most predominately fellow Artist and friend Michael Braun. Steve's highly expressive images and use of color and form create subtle dimensions that seduce the viewer into a visual exploration. ...

Katie Pfeiffer - My goal or artistic process is to examine personal relationships and feelings in a humorous way using a multitude of imagery from everywhere. I like to mix up my drawing and paintings with found imagery to create something new. I look to imagery made for children ( especially school primers from the 50s and 60s) as well as stickers to express my naive and child like look at "Adult" subjects. Exploring mysteries of my own desires as well as comment on the stereotypes which exist in female and male relationships. I want my art to envelope the viewer with color, humor and feeling. In the past few years I have started to explore the relationship of light and dark and the association with positive and negative emotions as well as make several collections of "ugly" paintings with text which explore my personal relationship with men, family and people in my life. All my art is original and I do not list prints or copies of my work. Most of my paintings are done in inks or acrylics. ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Dana Zivanovits - Gary Drostle - My inspiration could be summed up by the many hand print impressions found in cave art around the world. This simple hand impression can be seen as lying at the core of my artistic vision, it's origin is perhaps human kinds most ancient creative expression and can be seen in cave paintings over 50,000 years old, the signature of the first mural artists. Of course it's not a print, rather the impression left after the hand has been removed and as such symbolises the marks left on the environment by people now departed. To me this is a profoundly democratic view of art for all, on the street, enhancing and changing our environment, interacting with people, landscape and architecture reflecting a sense of place through the expression of our history and humanity, it is this that inspires me. My practice concentrates on working in large scale painted murals, mosaics for floors and walls and mosaic sculptures. In developing this work I draw on the specific site, its history and stories, its architecture and landscape and its community and users to create works which are specific to each site, enduring and beautiful. My experience includes working with other...
