  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Sonja Tellison - More than simple faerie tales, myths can teach, heal, act as morality guides, or beacons of inspiration along a sometimes murky spiritual path. The myths of a culture are its soul. They are whats left behind when the political border lines have changed and the people themselves are gone. Myth helps us to understand our own nature as well as that of the world around us. Joseph Campbell, noted scholar and one of the foremost authorities on mythology states, Myth must be kept alive. The people who can do this are artists . . . . The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world. At a time when we, as a society, rely more on science and technology for answers to our various quandries, than a collective, traditional knowledge, refocusing on mythologization is more important then ever. Are you anxious Here, take a new pill Are kids more violent Must be the video games The adage Theres nothing new under the sun. is itself certainly not a new concept. If we delve deep enough, the answers are already existent, like diamonds in the dark. When we forget the stories of our ancestors, we forget our own past and...

Claudette Losier - Artistic Statement - Claudette Losier (LosiersArt) "Where Beauty Lies " "The artist knows that even though he has created something beautiful, it can be destroyed. His real and innermost satisfaction is not in the object, but in the subject; that thing within him that penetrates the mystic splendor of Beauty itself." (Ernest Holmes pg 39) One of my bodies of work explores the concept of Paradise as something sought after by modern society. My search centres on gardens--as near as our own backyard and as far away as other continents or the imaginary garden in our consciousness. It has been stated that each garden reflects our longing for spiritual peace--a tie with our primeordal beginnings. It is in the beauty of nature where I find this spiritual peace from a homemade garden to a formal garden, from a tree to the vastness of Grand Canyon, from a rocky coast line to the calmness of a man made pond. In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Power of Intention" he quotes from Emily Dickson and John Keats(pg 51): "Beauty is not caused. It is " As you awaken to your divine nature, you'll begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, ...

Sallyann Mickel - SallyAnn Mickel has an artistic style which expresses her deep love of nature and animals and the joy she experiences while creating her artwork. After years of rendering nature subjects in an exact, realistic manner, Mickel has realized her own emotional response to the natural world. Her portraits and landscapes are done in an impressionistic style using a limited palette, thick, rich oil paint or pastels, and a simplified vision. Currently, Mickel is exploring the combined mediums of collage and pastel. A concern for the environment and wildlife are underlying theme's in Mickel's artwork; artwork that is continually evolving. SallyAnn received her basic art training from Towson State College in Baltimore, Maryland and various courses and workshops offered in the Maryland area. Her inspiration comes from nature and animals. Her animalscapes (as she calls her portraits) are done realistically and in an Impressionistic style with soft pastels on quality Mi-Tientes pastel paper. Her animal portraits have been juried in and have won awards in local and national art shows, including 'The Art Show At The Dog Show' in Wichita, KS and 'The Cat Show' in Rockville, MD. She has portraits in art collections from Baltimore, Maryland to ...

Iva Kalikow - My first love was interior design which I studied at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I went on to study drawing and color at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. At first, I thought I wanted to design furniture, but while living in L.A. I took a class in stained glass and I was hooked. My approach is one of the overall interior design of the room as well as the architectural aspects. My stained glass art panels are created in the traditional lead technique seen for centuries in churches and cathedrals. Using a wide array of both handmade and manufactured glass in every conceivable color and texture, I am constantly visualizing how natural light will illuminate the work. In selecting my palette of glass, do I use a rough wavy glass or a smooth texture, do I want it translucent or opaque I then meticulously hand cut each individual piece of glass, grind the edges and wrap it in malleable lead came strips, then solder and cement to create my original custom designed interpretations. My most recent collection is inspired by the Masters of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, and Cubist periods of Art - ...

Simpson Barbara - Art Therapy: Spiritual Healing Through Artist Expression Evolved from strong emotional moments in my life and through the influence of my dreams, my passion to paint encourages me to explore deep within myself and create from these idyllic moments. Since a few years before the turn of the new millennium I became more in-tune with my higher being, or'spiritual self'. Through the connection and inspiration of people around me, and through acquiring greater knowledge of a spiritual world and an understanding of colour and its effect in our everyday lives, I feel blessed with the ability to express myself in an artistic way. My paintings define my individuality, along with my vibrant personality. Influenced by the styles of great masters passed, such as, O'Keeffe, Monet, Renoir, Manet and Gauguin, I love bold colour with a style to call my own, representing my "joie de vivre". My work is considered upbeat, warm and flattering to the eye. And while I prominently work with acrylic paints, I have experimented with other media such as: pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil. I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, including abstract and portraiture, although, most of my work features ...

Pamela Flynn - My work has always been grounded in issues from living the day to day. I see the visual world as a mirror of human priorities and in much of my work I use digital images from self taken photographs as a starting point. My work is process intense and is meant to initiate an examination of the inherent responsibility that goes with living. My work explores many different issues. Among which are: the use of technology to generate the work, the ability of art to quietly evoke visual memories, the juxtaposition of the uncontrolled and the controlled in living, the blurring of the boundaries between the serious and the trite, the questionable truth of the photo image. ...

Artur Pashkov - Artur Pashkov is an artist originally from Russia. He arrived to New York in 2001 to explore the land of the opportunity in his career and passion. Here, Artur Pashkov wants to pursue a goal of a successful artist that can reach an audience by expressing his feelings and emotions through his Art. Artur graduated with BFA from Pace University in 2007. Fine Art is Artur's gateway to share with other people his way of seeing everything around him. In this way some people can perceive through his representations and visions the world in different perspective and color. It's not easy for Artur to describe his creativity, because it's a process that he's not fully aware of. His visions are like dreams, and are not easily understood or explained. Every time he takes a brush in hand, his visions are coming from nowhere, and he does not know where they will take him. Some of Artur's paintings appear to come from another world, crazy and even scary. Artur Pashkov is a painter practically from birth, when other kids wanted a bike or a plane Artur wanted to paint. Over the last few years Artur Pashkov ...

Lucy Arnold - To see more of my artwork, please visit my website at www.lucyarnold.com. I love color, and that is my primary tool of expression. Intense color is the one characteristic that all my artworks in numerous styles and media have in common. I use color in abstract pieces to show balance, transformation, and interaction of energies. These pieces are created in many layers. Something of each layer is allowed to show through to increase the sense of multiple dimensions. An internal vision or feeling may serve as my inspiration. A stray bit of nature such as a feather, leaf, or shell may also be the starting point of creativity. A simple object may ignite a powerful internal reaction as inner and outer nature meet. Whether the finished piece is a highly realistic depiction or completely abstract, I strive to imbue my art with a sense of the mystery, beauty, and sacredness I find in the world and universe. ...

Steven Fleit - I am a self taught artist. I have been painting for over twenty years and approximately four years ago I declared myself an Artist in the professional sense. Prior to my declaration as an artist, I built a portfolio of thematic collections. I started with Caribbean tropical paintings. I have expanded my subject matter to, Vineyard, architectural reflection, and travel sight e.g. Venice Series paintings. When I felt that I had put together a substative portfolio, I identified as an artist. I am serious about my craft and I hope you enjoy viewing my work. Thank you....

Chris Jehn - I am primarily a self taught artist and have always felt creative. I worked my way through college by teaching crafts at an arts and crafts store, everything from embroidery and macrame to tole painting and pottery. I have taken numerous workshops from other practicing artists. Being with a group of other artists creates a synergy that inspires me. I now primarily work with acrylics and collage. I especially love intense color, and have made a study of color composition. One of the main reasons I live in Colorado is because almost everywhere you look there is something wonderful, and IaEURtmm compelled to try to paint what I see and feel. ...
