  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Cheryl Brumfield-Knox - Artist Statement for Cheryl Knox My primary creative interests are nurtured through stained glass, pastel landscapes, jewelry, and the camera. My pastel images are usually of ethereal landscapes, from my imagination. They are often of a place where I'd like to be at that time or of a place I fondly remember. The frames I use for them are made from salvaged wood from structures destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, an awesome discovery. The authentic colors, uniqueness, reward of preserving of a bit of history-someone's life or past-and using these in a work of art, completes the creative circle for me. Of course, I also use traditional frames for pastels, but there is compelling beauty with the Katrina frames. Stained glass is a beautiful medium with endless creative potential. My stained glass images break with convention by incorporating beveled glass and Swarovski crystals into the designs, along with endless varieties of colored glass with their different reflective properties. These add another aesthetic dimension to a sunlit glass design in a window: cascades of rainbows dancing across a room. The interaction of sunlight and incandescent lighting with stained glass works is spellbinding to me. Creating jewelry, as a "...

Elena Zhogina - I am a self taught artist in love with what I do. I love research into form, color, texture, styles and fantasies. I am a self-made artist. In contrast to classical school of painting I use intuition and feelings to express myself. For me the world of painting allows to find my own way of self-expression and reveal my true personality. Some paintings start from one idea but with time discover to me new things. They bring harmony and happiness into my life. I am focused on drawing/painting portraits/people and various types/styles of motion. There are several symbolism works in my portofolio describing certain period of my life and my reflections thereon. Its a pleasure to share it with you ...

Christine Laverty - I am a local Long Island, NY artist who enjoys working in many different mediums, including but not limited to: graphic art, acrylic painting, photography, polymer clay & mixed media. I am in the beginning stages of building my own small business selling my polymer clay creatures and I also sell graphic pieces, paintings and photographs in local exhibitions. ...

Nora Cervino - Intuition, plays an important role in my creative process. My paintings, mosaics, drawings and photographs are direct representations of a journey that begins as a meditative process. Without a predetermined plan, the forms, colors, lines and themes in my imagery are developed. My work honours spontaneity and the essence of the magic I experience while I manipulate the materials I work with. The work is of a narrative nature, attempting to convey past and present personal experiences. Bold colors, lines, forms and themes are juxtaposed to create a melange of disparate elements harmoniously working together like life itself. By working in this intuitive manner, my work also attempts to provoke audiences to value and welcome the importance of subconscious thought and the relevance that it has on day to day living....

Bernd Wachtmeister - Bernd Wachtmeister is one of those people who devote a great deal of time to analysing themselves in the context of their surroundings. Many of his feelings, impressions and thoughts find expression in his artistic work. They come to light, so to speak, through form and colour. For Wachtmeister, creating art is a statement of passion as well as purpose. It might not be immediately apparent when looking at his pictures that they have involved a high degree of effort on my part. It might also be possible that, at first sight, they seem somewhat immature, light-hearted, maybe even playfully naive. However, when reflecting on their meaning as expressed in their titles it will become evident that there is an ironic, critical depth to works that, on the face of it, may appear to be straightforward and friendly. While art is for Wachtmeister both a calling and a passion, he devotes himself professionally to visual communication. Since 1990, he has worked successfully as a freelance graphic designer, mainly in the areas of advertising/promotion, publishing and new media. Wachtmeister's special interest is the illustration as well as the design of signets (CI), posters, websites, packaging, brochures and ...

Jonathan Benitez - my art is a storytelling in visual form.my images are my attempt to extricate memories from my past experiences as a child.i live in a coastal community where the daily toils of the fisher folks are my sources of inspirations. beauty sometimes do not reconcile with certain aesthetics. but i found it in exploring realities, there is beauty in depicting the human conditions, the other side of happiness, the negative feelings as effected by pain and sufferings but unspoken.the best art in the world is not about happiness but its about depicting what happen to humanity. ...

Susan Baquie - My art work varies in style as it is the result of experience and observation, as well as formal studies. From a type of surrealism to expressionism, sometimes more realistic and at others abstract in conception, many of my pictures reveal a psychological awareness, at times a depiction of trauma, and at others, the joys of colour, pattern, design and the flow of paint or ink across canvas or paper. Painting is like life itself, a constant mirroring of energy, a dynamic pouring of the soul onto two dimensions. It can be caring or selfish, it can be political, humanistic and even cruel. It is a way of life and as with poets and writers, often a happy work and often hard. It is wonderful to be able to show work on the Internet in this way. ...

Monica Malbeck - I was born and raised in Romania, attending art school there. I graduated in 1974 from a highly successful art pilot program at age 18. Where I was offered exposure to all facets of art from visual communications to industrial design. This was followed by a successful career in fashion design with clients throughout Europe, U.S., and Japan. In 1990 I moved to the United States, and in 1996 I was introduced to digital media falling in love instantly with its versatility. I have been exploring digital design since then, trying to mix digital color and the illusions of texture and shape to capture fleeting, momentary thoughts and my feelings. My style varies depending on the subject being captured, as I always try to let the subject dictate the style rather than try to impose a repetitive style format. I have retired to Hawaii very early from a career as a fashion consultant, and decided to focus on art. My very first submission of my artwork to an international competition in Italy, was chosen among the finalists. I am a self-taught digital artist, and I like to explore a broad range of subjects. In my gallery you will...

Monica Malbeck - Sharon Austin - With the simplicity of pen and ink, I try to capture the essence of my subjects without the distractions of color. I also try to capture the Caribbean flavors of my birthplace in the faces and places I create on canvas....

Ellen Spencer - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Ellen Spencer is a well known artist and longtime environmental activist. Her work reflects her passion in the celebration of life, women's/children's health and its connection to our environment. Ellen is originally from the Boston area, but has been residing in the San Francisco bay area for the past ten years. She currently has her studio in Oakland, California. She has spent many years successfully exhibiting and selling her works throughout the United States and has received numerous awards. As an artist and an activist, my work represents the strength and unity inherent in the human spirit. These paintings are part of several different series about women, health and the environment. They celebrate what is possible when people come together as one. Each painting has a feeling of its own and is done in different mediums. The colors are vivid and rich reflecting the myriad ...

L Gonzalez - I draw whenever the urge hits me. When moments of quiet descend upon me, I find a bit of digital fingerpainting eases any mood. My current artistic endeavors are digitally oriented. I find that digital media makes the creation process for an artist that much easier. I started with traditional media but found myself draw in by the ease of digital art. I use a number of software to create my works. Most of the works on this site were created with "Expression" by Creature house. It's a versatile illustration program. I also use Bryce 4 for 3D rendering, Adobe Photoshop (I have 6.0) and Painter Classic. The latter is a very nice software that allows you to fake oil painting, watercolor and other traditional media. It's very handy for practicing at traditional arts w/o the messy clean up and hassles. I've also begun using Terragen for 3D scenery. If not for the game Myst, I probably never would have attempted digital art. It was my interest in the creation of the game Myst that peaked my interest in digital art. With the help of friends and acquaintances online who were also intrigued with digital ...

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...
