  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jay Braden - Art is a thread connecting the many passions I value in life. Painting and illustration are two of my favorite modes for pulling together the vast array of subjects that fascinate me, people I've met, and places and events I've experienced, into an evolving series of statements and reflections of the world. The creation of art is one form of visual story-telling. What each viewer brings to their experience of an image is as important as the image they're observing. When this is realized, both the viewer and the image are liberated, and the image truly speaks to the individual in a unique way. ...

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...

Pamela Flynn - My work has always been grounded in issues from living the day to day. I see the visual world as a mirror of human priorities and in much of my work I use digital images from self taken photographs as a starting point. My work is process intense and is meant to initiate an examination of the inherent responsibility that goes with living. My work explores many different issues. Among which are: the use of technology to generate the work, the ability of art to quietly evoke visual memories, the juxtaposition of the uncontrolled and the controlled in living, the blurring of the boundaries between the serious and the trite, the questionable truth of the photo image. ...

Bernd Wachtmeister - Bernd Wachtmeister is one of those people who devote a great deal of time to analysing themselves in the context of their surroundings. Many of his feelings, impressions and thoughts find expression in his artistic work. They come to light, so to speak, through form and colour. For Wachtmeister, creating art is a statement of passion as well as purpose. It might not be immediately apparent when looking at his pictures that they have involved a high degree of effort on my part. It might also be possible that, at first sight, they seem somewhat immature, light-hearted, maybe even playfully naive. However, when reflecting on their meaning as expressed in their titles it will become evident that there is an ironic, critical depth to works that, on the face of it, may appear to be straightforward and friendly. While art is for Wachtmeister both a calling and a passion, he devotes himself professionally to visual communication. Since 1990, he has worked successfully as a freelance graphic designer, mainly in the areas of advertising/promotion, publishing and new media. Wachtmeister's special interest is the illustration as well as the design of signets (CI), posters, websites, packaging, brochures and ...

Susan Leopold - My art tells a nonlinear story that emerges from my dreams and memories. I am drawn to the dynamic between past and present,to what can be seen and what is invisible and the connection of the conscious to the unconscious mind. I work with portraits, old photos, materials, textures and objects that reflect their history. I am attracted to things that are imperfect, tactile, raw edged or torn. I juxtapose disjointed bits and pieces in the way that the mind replays the past. ...

Alev Guvenir - Since childhood I am painting, but it was never a profession. In 2001, I have quitted my work_painting has become the joy of living. Painting is my meditation, my secret private place. There I am pure. No guilt, no regrets, no shame, no fear_my soul becomes light and transparent... ...

Bruce Naigles - From a philosophical standpoint, all that we perceive in the world of form is an outer expression of an inner dynamic. Though my work is predominantly figurative, I find it to be the art of giving form to the formless; ideas, emotions, relationships, events. These are by their very nature intangible and essentially abstract, though they continually alter and effect our physical reality. We read them through our intuitive understanding of body language, much as snow blown about on a winter's day reveals the invisible movement and form of the wind. To 'clothe' these subliminal qualities in human figures and bring them forth in a sculpture, whether it be a simple figure inspired by a model's beauty or an allegory of our human condition, is the basic goal and driving force in my work. ...

Smeetha Bhoumik - Greetings! My canvases are melting pots of imagination, existence and personal quests. With paint and it's possibilities of probing inner and outer worlds, I explore my different universes - as a woman, an artist, a professional, a family member, an intrepid traveller, a lost soul, a dreamer believer, a seeker . With the Universe Series I seek to express my complete enchantment with the luminosity, and unending glory of this huge universe and it's magical ways, in some ways finding tenuous connections to the infinite forces that we are a part of . The magic of nearby constellations, far-away galaxies, supreme supernovae, bright young stars, star forming nebulae and their stories have I tried to explore and capture in the 'Universe Series' - conversations on canvas between the viewer, the artist and the unknown. The birth of young stars in regions rich in gas and dust from exploding stars or supernovae, gigantic collisions of galaxies twisting them out of shape temporarily, huge emissions of heavy metals including gold and platinum spat out by supernovae when they burst, the impossibly beautiful colours of dead stars refusing to fade away . Somehow all this enchants and speaks simultaneously of the transient amazing entity that ...

Hongvan Ng - A VISION COMES FROM A POINT WHERE THE IDEAS START. Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me, the beautiful and the painful for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art, when I am purely communicating, I am free. ...

Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Eduardo Diaz - Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

Hans Molnar Reitmeyer - Photography as an art form is the youngest of all disciplines. Photographic art is the most difficult medium to master for the simple fact that ones imagination is meaningless without real elements to express ones emotion and ideas. All other art mediums suffer no such restrictions. Yes images can be manipulated but essentially they must 1st exist in the real world to be manipulated. Hans Molnar/Reitmeyer is basically a self taught photographer. At the age of 11 yrs held his first camera and from that time on grew a fascination and love for photography. Hans finds the human body fascinating and sees it as a wonderful piece of art in itself. A part of his work can be described as purely his own aesthetical view point of the human body , another aspect of his work involves his own views and experiences of human sexuality and relationships and finally on women's issues of injustice. Do not expect to see the so-called perfect godly or goddess figures in his online galleries. Hans concentrates on his artwork photographing average every day people as he believes that as being representative of humanity and partly in protest against the general media and ...

Chuka Machie - I am a self taught artist from eastern part of Nigeria in West Africa. My style of art work is not consistent since it fluctuates between realism and aabtract. They depict different level of life and forms though I prefer to work mostly on theme that portrays African(predominantly Nigerian)way of life and culture....

Shin-Hye Park - Park, Shin-Hye Born in Daegu, Korea Master of Fine Arts, Graduate School of Hong-lk Univ., Seoul, Korea Freie Kunst, Gesamthochschule Kassel, Univ., des Landes Hessen, Germany Present Lecturer at Hankyong National Univ., Korea An Attempt to Perceive:Nature, Life and Humanity An Artistic expression is for me an act of confirming what I have perceived, namely what I have to know while seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling endlessly in the midst of daily life. What is especially important in my work is how I have progressed to know nature. Nature is a starting point of understanding about life, humanity, and somthing called living as one experiances. It is also a place for an empirical, not ideological, understanding of God. Equilibrium is a divine state. Thus, God must have created the universe in his attributes. Now we conceive equilibrium as broken and are feeling a pain from the wound. Then an artistic act is, at least for me, a reflection upon such a reality and embodies a meaning for healing. prolog I feel a deep compassion for Ahnsan, which is suffering from a serious pathological symptom called !(r)development,!- and in turn often affirm in my mind that I will ...
