  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Theo Radic - Everyone experiences drawing and painting as children. I was perhaps one year old therefore when I was first initiated into the painter's craft. I continued these universal beginnings throughout my school years and sporadic courses in college (which gave me few insights into this art). [...] I had only myself as a teacher in the art of painting. My evolution as a painter paralleled that of art history in general, beginning with my prehistoric period as a one-year-old-clutcher-of-crayolas, groping through Egyptian and Greek periods; a Renaissance period; and then neo-classicism, romanticism and naturalism; impressionism and fauvism; cubism and abstract expressionism. At nineteen I went to Europe, thirsty for scope and depth in Art which America lacks. Having established myself in the south of France, I absorbed the emanations of the modern masters who had lived and painted there. I was profoundly moved by the bizarre snow storm over La Cote d'Azur on the night of Picasso's death. No such storm had ever been seen before in April, as old-timers in Nice told me. [...] Fully acknowledging my debt to 'abstract expressionism', I nonetheless do not consider my art'abstract' - a word ...

Lucy Drumonde - The Line and Color of an Artist. Lucy Drumonde The provocation of line and color is the subsequent value of the artist and the art. Lucy Drumonde's cartoon and illustration design is the harmonizing line with the intensity of color. The love of lines, textures, shapes, design, simplicity, and the element s of humor, and seriousness -they unify the complexity of playfulness and personality in the final creation of an idea. Artists such as Peter Max, John Wesley, Alexander Caldwell, Gustave Klimt's, and Egan Schiele have whimsical patterns in usage of their lines and color. As well their work has generated emotional and poetic expression. These artists draw contradictions towards each other, and yet convene to their audience the narration in their work. The theory of line and color is to create a simplistic image in its equal balance. The feeling of the paper with the pencil, and the pen, they create the rhythm, and the lyrical aspects of the model or character. Egon Schiele's drawing is an example he demonstrates in the intensity of his style. These artists have influenced Drumonde's own direction to my own freelance unique style of drawing, animation, illustration, painting, cartooning...

Graf - Zyx - GRAF+ZYX : MUSEUM OF PRIVATE ARTS Already in the late 1970s GRAF+ZYX committed themselves to the ,,aestheticisation of everyday life" in all fields of a cross-culture. Their works with video, computer, laser, web design and programming, photography, graphic design, video sculpture, and music are visually influenced by Pop Art, Constructivism, Futurism, Dadaism and contemporary design, and musically rooted in Beat and Electronic Rock of the 60s and 70s, Free Jazz and classical modern music, whereas the lyrics in English - always composed and interpreted by GRAF+ZYX themselves - resemble obscure, existentialist dialogues. When required, voice modulation transforms the lyrics into a linguistically indefinable echoism. Their conceptual approach and their theoretical texts on their intermedia works can also be understood from these universal aspects. Beauty next to ugliness and complex sophisticated constructions next to stereotypical simplicity, in peaceful co-existence. An intellectually harsh phrase next to an aesthetically disorientating, exuberant emotionality to the point of a ,,comix", which is directed at unsettling the audience in general. As soon as the viewer believes in having fully grasped the artistic intention and relaxes in the certainty of his observation, another subliminally delivered cynical phrasing is guaranteed to foil this idyll. GRAF+ZYX ...

Zinovy Shersher - When I emigrated to the US, I was not allowed to take my paintings with me - by the Soviet government. They said to me you are professional artist, you studied inRussian University, so everything youve created belongs to Russian people. So when inNew York I could not show anything Ive created to the American galleries. But aftervesting many of them in NY, I was amazed by the variety of different schools and styles of art in Dmerica, it was a firework of colors, manners, techniques, I realized that I had to find my own style, own motives in my art, I was glad that Ileft everything I created before behind. It took me 3 full years to create a new group of work, 6 years to find my own style,- modern, contemporary with great school and techniques I got from Russian school and a course in School of Visual Arts in NY. I started to create paintings and realized that I have basically 2 themes in my paintings Music and Love. SInce I am a musician and composer myself, I studied violin in childhood, I realized that the violin touches the most sensitive nerves and feelings in the human body, ...

Zinovy Shersher - Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Alexander Sibachev - Magical realism is the common theme throughout Alexander Sibachev's portfolio of oil paintings. Influenced by travels and life on three continents (Europe, Africa and North America), his artwork is a spectrum of emotions and impressions translated into form and color. Alexander presents a modern interpretation of form and figure combined with an emotionally-charged color palette. Each painting offers a fresh perspective of the magical element in the otherwise ordinary. To view Alexander's full portfolio, please visit www.sibachevart.com...

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...

Ellen Rosenberg - aEURoeWhen you approach something to photograph, first be still with yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence. Then donaEURtmt leave until you have captured its essence.aEUR Minor White Art is neither a profession nor a hobby. Art is a way of being. It is an expression of the human spirit and an integral part of all beings. My creative passion is expressed through the art of photography, allowing for a vocabulary of imagery that is my own. These photographs arise out of my own spirituality, a practice of mindfullness and being fully awake to the present moment. As my journey has taken me deeper into the study of Dharma I have recognized that the camera becomes an extension of my being. I bring the camera to my eyes and aEURoefeelaEUR the image that appears in front of me with a heightened awareness. An opening to the world precisely as it is, offering up all the richness and beauty that is present within this moment of time. I seek to create an intimacy with my photographs, allowing for the viewer to feel the art form, not as a two dimensional visual archive of a moment, but to...

Bodo Gsedl - In my works - portraits of individuals, surroundings and music - my goal is to catch what can not be seen at a glance. What is behind the image of a person? How can I make music visible? My art has to be explored. There is always something behind the first impression. ...
