  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity (I have a day job). My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons' music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. I've done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorena's studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to peruse. In 2003, I legally changed my name back to my original name, Michael Garr, so ...

Michael Garr - Lynda Lehmann - I have participated in numerous juried shows and had solo shows of my paintings. Ive sold my photography and digital art online, in galleries and other real-time venues, although I am currently marketing my work primarily online. My stock art sells well and Ive sold at least 2400 images in that venue. Life events had steered me away from painting but I am jumping back into that part of my process and hope to have new paintings online within the next few months. OTHER STUFF My painting Bibliophiles Dream has been featured on the cover of the Insights Journal of Austin Seminary. My paining Damariscotta Dream has been used for the cover of Chuck Sweetmans poetry chapbook published by Dream Horse Press. My image Enchanted Forest was used by the Sierra Club in their online feature Daily Ray of Hope. The Yellow Door has been published in Long Islands Canvas Magazine. I was a featured artist at Imagekind in July and have been featured from time to time on my other sites as well. February 1 - 28, 2009 - Metrimorphic III featuring new abstract paintings combining biomorphic and geometric elements, Harborfields Library, Greenlawn, NY. Due to time constraints I will ...

George Grie - George Grie art statement. Ii?1/2m confident that new graphic technologies unlocked endless possibilities to creative individuals. Visual capabilities of some contemporary 3d applications are far beyond common human comprehension. Today the sky is the limit to exercise your imagination, intelligence, and ambitions. i?1/2Everything is possiblei?1/2 could be a motto of present and future digital artists. Ii?1/2m trying to prove it in every one of my modest creations. Never-ending combinations of renderings, lightings, and/or shape deformations bring you the sensation of full liberty. There are no more hours of a laborious painting routine. There is no more painful drafting. Everything is instant under the tips of your flying fingers. Paul Orzech - Paul Orzech Sculpture Studio Artist Statement: The heart of my artwork is expressed by the words "Classical form with a modern edge." As an artist, I feel the need to incorporate the classic concepts of the human figure from the Ancient Greek and Italian Renaissance periods, with the more message-oriented elements of today's art. My belief in the beauty and power of the raw human form is exquisitely celebrated in the classical forms of sculpture. The modern themes I treat in my art include feminism; contemporary ideas of spirituality and love; and the all consuming presence time plays in our fast-paced American lives. I feel there is a quiet strength in the combination of established classics and contemporary expression that demonstrates a smooth continuity of social history. ...

Diana Lorena Pirez - Art is everything, and anything. it is the ultimate drug, something you just can't nor want to get rid off. it owns you and not the other way around, and it is of course, what I see myself doing for the rest of my life. these photos, these drawings and paintings, own a bit of my heart. each one of them have something so valuable and unique in my perception, that a white box will never be enough to explain. it is also yours to contemplate, experiment, enjoy. your cooperation will allow me to buy new material and never stop doing what I believe in, to finish college and hopefully- move to the united states to pursue my dream of becoming a professional fine art photographer. for your time, thank you ...

Stephen Mead - In the early 1990's Stephen Mead's poems began appearing in such journals as Onionhead, Bellowing Ark, and Invert, but upon moving to Provincetown, Mass., Stephen decided to concentrate more on visual work. It was in the year 2000, after moving back to NY, that Stephen started seeking publication again for both his writing and his art combined. Since, then, thanks to the wonders of the World Wide Web, his work has appeared internationally both in cyberspace, hard copy, and physical Gallery Space. Often the writing has appeared along side his paintings, and at other times with the text superimposed. In 2004 Stephen began experimenting even more with these poetry/art hybrids creating a series of e books, including the award winning "We Are More Than Our Wounds". From there Stephen began experimenting with his art and poems as films, at first creating slideshows with captions, and then doing his own soundtracks and voice overdubs. These DVDs are available through Indieflix.com In 2006 Stephen put this technology to use releasing a CD of poems set to music "Safe & Other Love Poems" (CDBaby.com), as well as two print editions of his image/art hybrids, "Selected Works" and "Tree ...

Ed Pennebaker - Ed Pennebaker Red Fern Glass Statement: At a time when many designers/artists leave the crafting of their designs to apprentices, fellow craftsmen, or even a factory style setting, it is rare for the designer to continue as the maker. For me working directly with the glass is a time of zen, a period when I can concentrate on one thing only, the glass, a time to leave the rest of the world behind. I see my work belonging to a contemporary line of the "decorative arts" that developed from the arts and crafts movement where craftsmanship is of the utmost importance. Striving for the "perfect object" is the goal of the craftsman/designer and working directly with the materials at hand provides the greatest satisfaction for me. The most important aspects of glassmaking are light, color and form. I want my work to take advantage of the luminous quality of light. Light coming through the glass reveals texture and pattern and casts colors and shadows so the glass work interacts with its environment and becomes a pure visual feast. The jewel like colors of glass, the individual forms of the pieces and the light from within work as a ...

Eric Helin - The work of the Cubists made a strong impression on me at a very young age. I often use a Cubist approach when I manipulate space. I artificially restrict depth in my works, by forcing my designs into the confines of a two dimensional plane which flattens and distorts depth. The results of this can be seen in pieces like my table "Watercourse." The outre, exotic and unusual have always fascinated me. Consequently, aspects of the Avant-Garde and Surrealism have also significantly influenced my work, though ultimately my work is defined by Concrescentism. The Concrescentist approach allows me to re-interpret traditional elements or designs by applying operative techniques derived from various art movements. This alters any original element in such a way that it results in hybrid decorative motifs or forms. My own "maleness" is another underlying component in my artistic expression. I'm captivated by the sleekness, grace, and angularity of the male form which seems very consistent with my own designs. This masculine disposition is expressed in well defined lines and carefully delineated geometric forms. It also adds an industrial dimension that issues in precisely structured pieces like "Smokestack," or in tables with bridge-like qualities...

Tom Poole - Kentucky artist Tom Poole paints with watercolors, acrylic, pastels and mixed media,www.tompooleart.com. He has studied with some of the best artists in the world and considers Cheng-Khee Chee to be his mentor. Tom's work has been accepted in many regional and national exhibitions including the Southern Watercolor Society, the Kentucky Aqueous Show and the Louisiana International Exhibition. He is a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society, a member of the Southern Watercolor Society, the Georgia Watercolor Society, the Mississippi Watercolor Society and a regional director of the Kentucky Watercolor Society. He is also a member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters. His art has a strong emphasis on design and bold color. His figural and portrait paintings are contemplative and invite the viewer to be quietly drawn into the painting and more recently has been including mystic and spiritual components. He is striving to make his art more personal. He says, "My art is intended to be sensual, poetic and in some way a small look into the soul." He believes that a painting should be a continuous exploration, a continuous revelation that never stops telling you it's secrets. His work is ...

Bernd Wachtmeister - Bernd Wachtmeister is one of those people who devote a great deal of time to analysing themselves in the context of their surroundings. Many of his feelings, impressions and thoughts find expression in his artistic work. They come to light, so to speak, through form and colour. For Wachtmeister, creating art is a statement of passion as well as purpose. It might not be immediately apparent when looking at his pictures that they have involved a high degree of effort on my part. It might also be possible that, at first sight, they seem somewhat immature, light-hearted, maybe even playfully naive. However, when reflecting on their meaning as expressed in their titles it will become evident that there is an ironic, critical depth to works that, on the face of it, may appear to be straightforward and friendly. While art is for Wachtmeister both a calling and a passion, he devotes himself professionally to visual communication. Since 1990, he has worked successfully as a freelance graphic designer, mainly in the areas of advertising/promotion, publishing and new media. Wachtmeister's special interest is the illustration as well as the design of signets (CI), posters, websites, packaging, brochures and ...

Ana Marini Genzon - Personal Statement My art is about people and the way they experience their lives. I intend for my artwork to reflect emotions and thoughts. While creating sculptures and paintings, I try to suggest a story, not only of the moment but also of an entire life. Not only of what we can see, but what is invisible to the eyes. Art is always a mirror. That is why it is so powerful. It speaks not only about my subject, but also speaks about my perceptions. In the process of expressing the mood of the subject's substance, I constantly go deep inside myself searching for answers about human relations in this fast and ever changing world. My work is a conversation in color inspired by the intricacies of nature. Through my paintings I explore texture, color and process. Texture is a significant component of my work as my goal is to create a surface, not just paint one. Education Ana studied art at The National Institute of Fine Arts Manuel Belgrano where she earned a BFA and at the National Academy of Fine Arts Pridiliano Pueyrredon in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she graduated with an MFA. Upon her arrival ...

Margaret Stone - Here we are, physically cemented to the earth by gravity. But - our imaginations stretch and soar, taking us beyond our planet and connecting us with far places in the universe. Being part of this, do we indeed live and bloom in a cosmic garden? Ah, perhaps so. I am exploring this connection in my new artwork....
