  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jean Judd - Every quilt tells a story and every quilt is unique. The common factor in all quilts is that fabric and thread are used to create a piece of art. To many viewers, cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into little pieces and then sewing them together again into a totally different looking piece of fabric, is unbelievable. Who would want to do this day in and day out The dedicated quilt artist and fabric collector I have always enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and the same person who enjoys jigsaw puzzles discovering a finished masterpiece constructed of hundreds or even thousands of little pieces is drawn to the magic of quilt design. Each quilt design is a puzzle waiting to be put together. The design starts in the quilt artists mind and is eventually transferred into reality with the final stitch in the quilt. Many times the original design is nothing like the finished quilt but this just adds to the excitement and the design potential for the next quilt design. What starts in the mind is often transformed into a bigger, better and more dramatic finished quilt than the artist ever imagined. I prefer to make my own ...

Lorrie Williamson - As time passes and history is made, it is exciting to try and capture a special moment of life in a painting. It might be inspired by an earth-shaking event or just an ordinary daily experience. More often it comes as a result of looking for something meaningful to say about life as it is today by painting a picture of it. I have a passion for painting, and a ongoing desire to master the never-ending possibilities that are inherent in making art. I hope to express a mood or tell a story that will grab and hold your attention and make you want to see more....

Storm Hammond - In many of the paintings, my intention was to give the viewer a glimpse into a peaceful moment in the Italian sense of capriccio. In others, particularly those which make use of funerary statuary, one is left questioning aspects of human solitude. It has been said that a landscape does not come alive until there is a figure in it. By using sculptures of human forms, I offer the viewer an identity within the painting. As they are stone, subtly a coldness permeates and a peculiar isolation sets in emotionally. This shifts the pastoral mood to a quiet thoughtful meloncholia. This gives some observers a surrealistic impression of my work. In the architectural alleys, the viewer stands alone on the path. There is always the unseen, something more, a mystery around the corner or through the gate. I use an indirect Old Master's method of oil painting. The process begins with the application of an abstract acrylic ground. Next, an oil grisaille is painted defining the light and dark areas. Then, multiple layers of oil glazes and varnishes finish the piece. The first drawing, painted as the ground utilizes the divine geometry of the Golden Section. The divine ratio, ...

Martin Glick - As a realistic sculptor I have often been accused of running against the tide of the more modern and abstract movements, but if you take a good look at the work the design is abstract. The look of the work may be, at first glance academic or classical, but the composition is very much in today's idiom. There is a strong sense of movement. Even in the symmetrical sculptures you feel as if they are about to move, like a stop motion camera. They all invite invite you to walk around and see the other side. There is often a strong emotional element and or a narrative. In some sense I am a story teller. Even when viewing one of my portraits you see the subject. Their history and personality is in their face for you to see and to react to. I have been told that my sculptures have something that is unique. There is a twist to the norm, a twist of the form, an emotional element that is mine. It is my heart and my particular view of the world. No price quoted on a sculpture means that it is at a gallery. All i inquiries...

Lou Posner - Wayne Wilcox - ArtistaEURtms statements have always seemed redundant to me. The work generally speaks for itself. But here goes.. For me itaEURtms about shapes, color and lines interacting and relating to each other. Representational, abstract, non-objective theyaEURtmre all the same. Light against dark, color against color, line intersecting line. IaEUR~m as comfortable with super realism as I am with abstract expressionism. Then, of course, thereaEURtms the medium. I love the paint. I love the act of painting. I love how it flows and how it takes on a direction on itaEURtms own. ItaEURtms like magic. With one stroke something appears before your eyes that wasnaEURtmt there before. An image. An emotion. With each stroke or drip it changes. ItaEURtms an amazing experience. I highly recommend it. And then thereaEURtms image. I am a visual artist. IaEUR~m after strong images, images that evoke a feeling. Starkness, warmth, love, violence, emptiness, beauty, strength. I want the painting or drawing to stand on itaEURtms own. I am a painter. I cannot escape that fact. There have been times IaEUR~ve tried but I always return. ItaEURtms not what I do. ItaEURtm...

Michael Ashcraft - I am a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute. My work reflects the symbolic metaphors in the world around me. I spend a lot of time finding the right physical objects or settings to build the statements I wish to express. I may spend months or even years with an idea before I ever touch a canvas or piece of paper. Once I begin I let the painting dictate its own style. Only the painting can tell me when it is finished. I will usually set them aside for a long time before I come back and decide if they are truly finished or need more work. I hope you enjoy them....

John Tooma - This site is only a guide to my artworks, you will appreciate them alot more when they are seen in real life. These prices are set in US currency, hope you could be aware of this. As a Painter and Graphic DesignerIllustrator, art is huge part of my life. Its a great feeling to have the ability to draw and paint what my eye can see. As an observer, I love to sketch in my A5 pads and photograph most subject matter transferring the visual information onto paper, canvas, clay or the computer. I use digital photographic equipment only as a support for my work. I draw and paint virtually everything but my passion lies with the human body. I use dry and wet medium such as graphite pencil, chalk pastel, charcoal, ink, gouache and oil paints. I enjoy experimenting with my subject. I also use the apple computer for retouching and airbrushing technique. You can order Prints from any of these Paintings or Drawings and this would be printed on either Paper or Canvas depending on your preference. It is an absolute pleasure to share my passion with you and to speak about it through art. I enjoy sketching ...

Louise Parenteau - ARTISTIC STATEMENT I studied fine arts at the University Of Quebec In Montreal (1986-1991). I was involved in various artistic activities in which I took a strong stand against injustice, poverty, and social exclusion. My work took shape using different methods of research and observation. I articulated my artistic approach inspired by existential human sufferings. I created portraits of individuals with unusual physical traits, expressions, deformities, attitudes... These characters inspired me to use colour in contrasts and splashes. My aim was to express the life animating the characters by an internal light. For my installations, I used a physical space to transpose socio-political situations and dramatic events. With the barest resources, my intention was to stimulate the interest of the viewer. My material supplies: Acrylic, rubbish, wood, metal, rust, polystyrene panels, personal objects, used clothing, etc. In 1995, I realized that I had reached limits with my artistic approach. I decided to have a period of questioning with the aim of going further in my research in terms of intention and expression. This process enabled me to explore, to experiment with different materials and to reposition myself using sculpture as my main form of expression. Ever...

Louise Parenteau - Louise Parenteau - Steve Hunsicker - All the components of my work: the centerpiece, box and frame are constructed entirely of wood. The centerpiece of the sculpture is usually a simple form inspired by animal forms, nature or religious and spiritual symbolisms. The centerpiece is carved wood finished with a number of different mediums. Usually I use acrylic paint, stains, powdered metals, coral, nails, stone, copper and iron wire and other materials. Acids are combined with the powdered metals to create various finishes. Often the centerpiece is mounted in a shadow box or on a three dimensional display. The frame is usually finished using powdered metal that is then oxidized. Sometimes I am asked how long does it take for me to create one of my pieces? The answer I give might be a few days, a year or perhaps hours. For me the creation of a work of art is not limited to the time it takes to create the physical piece. The process of creation is a manifestation of a personOs life experience. Often the process is a search, a search for something mystical, sacred, mysterious and personal. The search is what is most important and is continuous. The time from the point ...
