  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Rosemarie Gleiser - The use of a nude human body in my artwork gives place to two concepts: in the first place it is to speak about the mind, the transparent and plastic essence of the being as well as its frailty and vulnerability. In second place, and paradoxically it corresponds to the image of the body as an object, the body as an action field for relationships to take place, and of the body as a doubly mutilated fragment (due to photography framing and for any kind of injure against the human being). The mind concept is elaborated in my work by means of plastics that represent for me a border between the material and the unsubstancial. While the warmth of the body or its surface, represent for me the hair, the photographic image as well as the printmaking papers. In this sense, plastics work as a metaphor for the mind and the clarity of thoughts. The fragility of that border allow us to see through our bodies. If formerly I used evanescent materials in order to manifest what was happening beneath that skin or within those thoughts, now with the hair drawings I am representing the tensions generated between human beings...

Larry Kaiser - How My Paintings Become Sopwith Camels or the High-Flying Thrills of En Plein-Air. I pilot a painting. Rev it up. Get it off the ground, something--not Inspiration in the traditional mystic, religious, fantastic or legendary sense, but something real in our environment or our humanity that I find inherently splendid to my eye giving it lift. Then I set it on autopilot for a while in the direction I hope it will go. I do check the instruments--draftsmanship, painterliness, color (paying special attention to grays and values), communication and visual balance--rather diligently. If nothing bad happens, I relax and enjoy the flight. There are dangers in the process. Those cliches of habit and art school and patron taste often disguise themselves as that cheap inspiration I mentioned in the first paragraph and try to take over the flight. My job is to prevent that from happening. And I must recognize when the painting has run into a problem that it cannot pilot through by itself. Then, my job is to interfere. A little. Prevent the mutiny. Then hope that my ability, such as it is, has not been insulted, will not sulk, does not...

Pinggot Zulueta - During my early years as an Artist, my work consisted of commentaries about the social, political and cultural issues of the time. My artistic portfolio focused on providing critical lens on societal issues through drawings/caricatures that were presented in the editorial sections of newspapers/media outfits where I worked. I had strong views about taking government to account for the services that they failed to render. I had expressed my views about high-ranking officials in government who failed to perform their duties as elected officials, and who amassed wealth to the detriment of their constituency. I depicted the corrupt and lowly practices of officials, and how these endemic and systemic practices had impacted on the poor and marginalized. In those days, public officials who felt alluded to by my editorial illustrations would send me letters, instructing that a public apology by myself and/or my newspaper was necessary. They felt that my artistic commentaries were careless views against them. My art had given me much fulfillment. As an Artist, I realized that I have a powerful tool, be it a pen or canvas, to expose excesses and, potentially, contribute to making positive changes. For the most part, I ...

Gregory Gobla - Whether two or three dimensional, the pieces are gauging the separation and distance between WHAT we are from WHO we are. As with any other form of expression intuition dictates style, color, form and subject matter. My believe my work to be both personally meaningful and externally meaningless at the same time....

Don Dougan - My work comprises both abstracted and figurative imagery executed in a variety of mixed materials, with stone being the predominate medium. Other materials used (usually in conjunction with stone) include foundry cast metals, carved and joined wood, cast and fabricated plastics, cold-worked and kiln-formed glass, cast and carved hydraulic cements, cast/formed paper, welded/fabricated metals, gilding, and found/assembled objects. The more abstracted imagery is worked in pedestal pieces, large freestanding sculptures, and in wall-mounted relief sculptures. The figurative lip series is usually presented in wall-mounted reliefs, deep shadowbox framing, and occasionally as either a pedestal piece or a large freestanding work. The most recently begun series of work comprises pedestal-sized pieces using the imagery of the ship or the boat hull. Each series or each type of work allows me to express aspects of the human condition - the more abstracted works tend to reveal a more universal emotional/rational characterization of subject matter, the lip series tends to allow sensuality, humor, and more visceral expressions, while the ship series delves into personal/cultural memories and emotional journeys. Fabrizio Fiorenzano - Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

Denise Dalzell - Painting. Illustration. Expressionism. Pop Art. Modern. Realism and, occasionally, a bit of Abstraction. My current work centers on my consideration of how we respond to each other, the stories that develop between us and around us, and how our collective stories reflect on and influence us individually. How our stories bounce off each other and combine to create new stories. My paintings are illustrations of the scenes that I encounter during my travels abroad and in daily life so, some scenes are more sweeping than others. How do we, as people of differing backgrounds, cultures, and experiences interact with each other Are we different people in a crowd than when alone How do we fit in or stand out where we find ourselves at any given moment, in any given story Stories are everywhere, and thereaEURtms no predicting what theyaEURtmll reveal. Body language, movement, color, contrast combine to illustrate my scenes of interaction between people and within environments. The excitement of being a part of something as unifying as a protest, the sense of adventure that comes from starting out with no particular destination, intimate moments with those we love and those we discover in the big events...

Jean Judd - Every quilt tells a story and every quilt is unique. The common factor in all quilts is that fabric and thread are used to create a piece of art. To many viewers, cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into little pieces and then sewing them together again into a totally different looking piece of fabric, is unbelievable. Who would want to do this day in and day out The dedicated quilt artist and fabric collector I have always enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and the same person who enjoys jigsaw puzzles discovering a finished masterpiece constructed of hundreds or even thousands of little pieces is drawn to the magic of quilt design. Each quilt design is a puzzle waiting to be put together. The design starts in the quilt artists mind and is eventually transferred into reality with the final stitch in the quilt. Many times the original design is nothing like the finished quilt but this just adds to the excitement and the design potential for the next quilt design. What starts in the mind is often transformed into a bigger, better and more dramatic finished quilt than the artist ever imagined. I prefer to make my own ...
