Steven Fleit - I am a self taught artist. I have been painting for over twenty years and approximately four years ago I declared myself an Artist in the professional sense. Prior to my declaration as an artist, I built a portfolio of thematic collections. I started with Caribbean tropical paintings. Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. Thor-Leif Strindberg - During the last years, I have moved more and more towards the abstract art. When searching for new roads in a strange territory, you always make new discoveries, and I have found a mode of expression that enables me to tell the observer a lot more than by depicting nature and the human form. A distinct, detailed subject can easily become an obstacle to communication by prevailing in the eyes of the beholder. In my abstract paintings I can transform thoughts and impressions directly into colors and shades, textures and brush strokes, like grooves on an old record. Neither do the paintings carry any titles, since I believe that this might limit the experience, because the beholder would consciously or unconsciously look for definite, well known shapes in the picture. So when something is depicted in my paintings, it is always something very simple. Like bowls. And cups. And plates. Plain and ordinary things that we all recognize - things that can easily give up their natural roles as utility goods and turn into picture elements with a new purpose and function as carriers and conveyors of memories, dreams, feelings. John Douglas - John Douglas is an Australian multi-media artist whose painting exhibitions have received acclaim and caused controversy both in his home country and internationally. He began painting at the age of 8, and studied at the Queensland College of Art until his expulsion in 1984 for being a "disruptive and disturbing influence", after which his career really took off. Mary Hatch - Mary Hatch has had a strong interest in art beginning painting and art classes when she was twelve, and visiting the Dallas Museum of Art, and A The Chicago Art Institute regularly made an impression on her style by seeing famous paintings. She studied art at UT Arlington, and transferred in her junior year to the Architecture department from the Art department, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and is a Registered Texas Architect and Interior Designer. She additionally studied printmaking at TCU and the University of Dallas. Seeing other museums also created a great love for art including the Kimbell Art Museum, Louvre, Prada, Kunsthistorisches, Ufizzi, and The National Gallery. John Hughes - Im a retired Aerospace Engineer, and to occupy my time, i started painting about 3 years ago. I have no formal training in painting other that a high school class in drawing, and more resent a training DVD in oil painting. My paintings are primarily for decorating the wall of a home, and not of an art gallery.
