Artist Statement:
As a self-taught artist, I draw deeply in my work from the wellspring of the rich cultural heritage of my home in US deep south, including my own family history.
Holding a degree in Interior Design, I have always been interested in art and have always loved to make things, even as a child. In 1990, I saw a primitive style painting that I liked, and decided to give it a try. What resulted was my own "naïve" style that has been collected by people from all corners of the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and as far as China. I love to tell a story in my paintings, and many times they are based on a real place with real people...and sometimes, they are just something from my imagination, whimsical and fun. The message is always one of a positive flavor, even if the subject matter is not. I love to portray hope and inspiration to the world.
My art concentrates mostly on scenes from the past...American Primitive Portraits, Biblical Verses, and scenes from the Old South. Some of my new projects include an "Amish Life" Series and a "Lost Farms" Series.
