"Laylah Ali"
1999-08-02 until 1999-11-07
Museum of Contemporary Art
Chicago, IL,
USA United States of America
The works on paper by Laylah Ali
are the product, as the artist writes,
of a generation of an
African-American grown not under
the weight of racial discrimination
but in an age of mixed messages.
Her surreal figures are both a
representation of stereotypes that
have undergone different
permutations and icons of a
different way of looking at race and violence.
