Artist Statement:
For years I've established myself as a colorist, which I still am, but the newest work, Listening to Raven, is essentially reflective of a corvid's moods, with subtle blue light mingling with black and gray. So I am an interstitial artist--painter, illustrator,textile designer, stained glass maker--who creates environments real and imagined that people can walk into and lose their edges. A professional artist adn writer, I see myself as a visual storyteller creating a new mythology.
Fascinated with the interplay of color and light, I translate nature’s mysteries and movement into expanded forms of beauty. Extended visits to the Florida Keys and the West Indies, travels to Indonesia and Australia, and living in the Hawaiian Islands influence my artwork. In 1986 I began painting on silk, using Japanese brushes, French dyes, and gold resist.
Layer upon layer of color produces a depth and vibrancy unique to this medium. Not knowing the rules I have developed a style that causes painters to ask me to divulge my secret. Didn’t realize I had one. I just do it. ...
