Artist Statement:
I have had a camera with me since the late 1970s, but my photography really didn't take off until I moved to New Mexico from Chicago in 2000. New Mexico is a land of shapes and color brilliantly illuminated by the sun. Upon moving here, I shot strictly in color, fascinated with the magic of the sun, but lately I have concentrated on monochrome images, both 35mm and digital, although on occasion I am inspired to shoot a roll of color. I am drawn by shapes and shadows, the secondary, almost abstract patterns they etch on film or arrange by way of electrons. I began as a traditional photographer in the traditional darkroom, but with the advent and advance of digital photography I rely entirely on my computer, although I prefer to take the final image to color photographic paper, usually Fuji Crystal Archive paper through the LightJet process. ...
