Artwork Description:

Inspired by the Renaissance House from 1593 in The Old Town in Aarhus, Denmark. The house is the front building of a merchant's property originally built in Badstuegade in Aarhus. With its heavy oak beams and carved brackets supporting the second storey, the house is an outstanding example of renaissance timber-frame buildings. The building originally had 22 bays, 10 of which are reconstructed here. The house was rebuilt in The Old Town in 1946 and houses facilities for children's activities and the school service. I have been asked to consider smaller sizes - sizes under 1 meter. Over the years I have made lots of paper cut-outs. I have developed a very secure technique when it comes to color fastness. I have chosen 4 specific colors - red, yellow, green and blue, supplemented with black/white and in rare cases with grey and light blue. I silk-screen print these colors on quality sheets before I cut. Then the cut-outs are mounted and I have made a color fast paper collage in quality paper. I wrote an article on "Matisse and Louisiana" about an exhibition concerning Henri Matisse's "second Life". This encouraged me very much. In his "second life" Matisse made numerous paper cut-outs.
