Artist Statement:
JO ANN ALLEBACH ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been looking at as well as seeing the world around me. I could see the color and light and somehow wanted to be able to let other people see how magnificent things were that were beyond what we had to contend with every day. How the light reflects off the leaves of a tree when the sun reaches through the sky, or the flower gathers its radiance or the glass sparkles is there to behold. How the colors of each season and luminescence elicits excitement.
My work can be considered impressionistic because it relies heavily on the light and shadow for much of the impact even though some realism is brought in for intensity in some work. I use several photographs or viewings or memories of living across the country especially from Maine to Arizona to complete each painting. I first start with broad stokes to lay in the tonal values and composition that will eventually come through with more detailed strokes to indicate the light and shadow. Light and shadow are colors not merely blacks and whites.
