Growing up in a beautiful part of the world, the Pacific Northwest, has been a grounding for my appreciation of my present surroundings clear across the country, in the Hudson Valley of New York. My response to the beauty of the landscape is an elegy for our loss of untouched innocent countryside, and a fusion of atmosphere and solidity to heighten the serenity I feel in being in nature.
In order to avoid being sentimental or manipulative, I find myself focussing more on the painting process than on a realistic portrayal. I let the paint itself stand ... |
