Artist Statement:
I believe that the divergent-type of thinking involved in the creative process is acutely related to an accurate observation of physical properties. Think of it as another way of phrasing ‘really seeing what is there.’ I like to start with the basic physical properties of an object, or a medium, (or an idea, if you will) and rework it and push the boundaries. Ultimately I am part engineer as well as artist.

Lee Shiney's Free Artist Portfolio
Welcome to Lee Shiney's Portfolio. Printed paper has its own rich historical vocabulary, old ideas someone deemed important enough to print. Just as the wooden pallets I have used in paintings have an implied consumption vocabulary, magazine and newspapers have an information vernacular. I am letting that vocabulary inhabit these paper works by simply using newspapers as a base or substrate for the work, with shredded art magazines layered on top of the substrate. All of this is held together physically with acrylic medium, and metaphysically with a deliberate randomness in choosing the paper.... |
