Artist Statement:
I simply explore concepts, where the goal is to work every day, full-time, as an artist in creative exercises. Hands-on authenticity is extremely important to me, since art can sometimes be perceived as not much more than the Emperor's New Clothes. But as a cancer survivor, I also have a need to work fast and efficiently, so I often build machines that help me to make finished artwork, where the machines themselves are an integral part of the process. Circles are seen in much of my work, but only because they are simple, iconic figures that serve a two-fold purpose. Their creation is often simply the result of the mechanics I employ, and they also represent an ideal starting point for creative experimentation.
Sharing is an important aspect of creation, and I try to make my work available and accessible. This includes giving it away on my website, showing people how to make their own art, and giving my time to certain causes. I embrace tangents and mistakes. There are no failures, only pathways to further creative experimentation.
