My paintings deal with my constantly developing understanding of both the psychological and physical phenomenon of containment. The progression of my work over the past ten years documents my experience with the psychological need for containment. Painstaking renderings of eggs, abstractions of apartment buildings stemming from my New York City childhood, maze-like grids--these images, all containers, formed my previous vocabulary. They expressed both a desire for the safety of enclosure and the terror of possible entrapment.
In my new series I paint spheres, also containers, but the
