  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...

Evangelos Tzavaras - For me is the same to paint a vase or a nude. What i want is the aesthetic result of my art to be the display of my soul at that moment. I do not expect from something to have soul, but to give my own....

Sebastian Novaky - Striving for a sense of harmony, even in the most uncertain of circumstances, inspires me to make sculpture. I aim to stimulate emotions, feelings and the imagination. I want to create an atmosphere conducive to achieving a sense of well-being, happiness and joy. My work is figurative but it is meant to be metaphorical, not simply representational. In attempting to achieve a spiritual balance in my life and work, I look for alternatives to the self-absorption, materialism and cynicism that often seem prevalent in society. I try to focus on the metaphysical rather than the evidence of the physical world. My sculpture is somewhat autobiographical. I left a successful financial career to pursue the creation of art when I became disillusioned with the purposelessness of accumulation. I discovered that thought, when acted upon, is transformative and very powerful. In my search for equilibrium in precarious situations be they emotional or economical, a moment of significant radical insight, brought about - not by a modification in material circumstances - but by a simple change in thought and the way those circumstances were perceived, revolutionized my life. I think of art as a form of language in which there are two simultaneous ...

Nataliia Bahatska - The world which we live is made of color. Color is something that creates beauty, energy. It causes emotions, it includes feelings. I have always been fascinated by the color and form. By combining them together, we get unlimited possibilities for creating art. But the creation of art or painting in my case goes deeper than combining the two of them. It starts with emotion or feeling, and then spat on the canvas. Some of my paintings are impulsive, where inner emotion captures my brush, while others are trips that even surprise me. With my painting, I try to express how I see the world, and on an emotional level I communicate with the viewer, hoping to fix the moment on the canvas. The process of creating a picture for me is very meditative. The search for harmony of color and the creation of an ideal composition is very important. In my paintings, I try to convey the joy of being, a beautiful image arising from simple things, be it a person, a corner of nature, or a remembered dream. My inspirations are also my life experience, the work of other artists, events, people and places around me. Describing the...

Slobodan Paunovic - Born, lives and works in Belgrade, Serbia. As a regular student at the Faculty of Architecture had a painting and graphics studies. Had over a hundred solo exhibitions at home and abroad. Over 15 years exhibited in "Art Gallery" in the hotel island Sveti Stefan. Many fans and collectors in the world own his paintings. Medium oil or acrylic on canvas. Style of impressionism, expressionism, realism....

T.e. Siewert - I found myself at that place in time where you know you must do what you were meant to do and do it now or it will never happen. For me, that meant creating art - taking the experiences and feelings of my life and placing them on a surface to try and capture meanings that I can share with others. My hope is that the viewer of my art will share these experiences in a way that will move them, that they will take something with them that will be remembered. I liken it to a dance where I invite them to share a moment of time with me and we will together explore thoughts of nature, secrets, times and places that we dream of or wish for. Or at times to simply reflect serenity - a feeling of everything in its place and as it should be. Sometimes the dance is samba-like, joyous and colorful - sometimes its a waltz, slow and purposeful. But always it is moving and requires thought and invokes emotion. I have used many mediums over the years but none has captured my imagination like encaustic - an inspired blend of beeswax and damar resin. Placed in ...
