  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kathy Donofrio - My art is a way to organize in a visual form what I see and feel through my mind's eye. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS SITE SUPPORT MY OUTDOOR ART INSTALLATION AT BURNING MAN 2014: "A Vortex for Vultures: ALIEN SANCTUARY"...

Evie Tirado - My journey as an artist began with my first crayon. I have always been in love with color. Over the years I've developed a passion for lines, forms, space, and the spaces between . Be it paint, inks, dyes, or watercolors, each media excites me. I experiment in diverse styles, allowing the subject, materials, and concepts, to influence the final outcome. My work is often a fusion of opposites -- chance and deliberation; remnants of the past link to the present; fluid pools of color, allowed to drip and layer and develop alongside the thick, structural impasto effects. For me, art is a necessity; a surrendering, a discovery, and a celebration. It transforms thoughts and ideals into dimensional realities beyond the flat surface. The interior process of abstraction suspends me from isolation, and connects me with my most authentic self,as well as the rest of humanity. ...

Susan Barnes - Since childhood, art has been a large and defining part of the person I have become and strongly influences the way in which I view the world around me. Having an artist grandmother, with a home studio, made it seem so natural a part of daily life. Hopefully this love of art will continue to be passed down through future generations. Painting is my passion. Although I am a representational artist, painting mainly in oils, my interest is not in copying a subject in a photorealistic way but rather to create something that is sensed on an emotional level in addition to what is seen with the eye. I paint both en plein air, which is both an exhilarating and challenging experience that feeds my soul, and in my Medford studio. Moving paint around is what it is all about, placing one piece of color against another to create that atmospheric effect and convey a mood. That's the mystery and illusion of painting. What attracts me are scenes infused with mood and atmosphere. There is no shortage of either along the coastal areas. Having spent summers for most of my life along the New Jersey shore has given me ...

Animesh Roy - "I don't pretend that I paint because I want to say something or convey a message. So, please don't read any hidden meanings into my paintings. I paint because I like to portray the happier side of life -- beautiful landscapes, for example -- because I think that there are enough artists painting the morbid side." "I love to travel because that's where the so-called inspiration comes, so I hope to travel more, paint and be generally happy." -- Excerpt from an interview....

Lisa Reinke - Recognize yourself, someone, everyone and no one in my faces - celebrate color in the shape of a nose, the curve of the ears, the mask of the eyes, and the lines of the lips and hair. Most of all remember the humanity in humanity. The human face inspires me. As humans, we respond to its image beyond all others. For all its familiarity, we rarely pause to consider the face as a visual form, something more than the recognition of a friend or an interaction with a stranger. I paint the face in ways to cause the viewer to reconsider its splendor and renew faith in all things human. Colors and sunlight playing across faces remind me of our connection to the universe and symbolize eternal and fleeting moments simultaneously. I love how we recognize and explore human faces for clues to identity and personality. I am happy to be creating my work and hope that my art inspires you to look around and see the world as a vibrant and exciting place where the most amazing patterns are on display all the time. Lisa Reinke ...

Dariya Afanaseva - All my works are dedicated to the themes of relationship and sensation translated on a language of painting. For example, relationship between people. Relationships human about him/her self and to outward things. And some of my works are about memories and thoughts. And also it is interesting for me to reproduce an eluding moment, an impression in a matter of seconds, fragments of life. Just because everything depends on nuance. Three main styles I work in are abstractionism, expressionism and a bit of pop-art. But these styles are not just as they are, it`s always a combination of them. Some of my Abstract works represent things that aren't visual, such an emotion, mood, feeling, sound and so on. These works are very association. My figurative abstractions are simplifications of reality, where detail is eliminated from recognisable objects leaving only the essence or some degree of recognizable form. Some works are expressive. I just let my intuition guide me. Not to thinking, not to be doubt of anything. It is about trusting the process and setting free the instincts. And also I like decorativeness and beauty of coloring. My choice of medium are acrylic and mixed media ...

Leyla Murr - I am an artist whose desire to express has been incubating for a number of years. I feel I have an endless well of images inside me and each journey consists of spontaneous steps leading to a new adventure. This is how I view my life and my art. Colours and feelings cement the process. It is up to the viewer to find me. ...

David Rocky Aguirre - ************** To me, Art seems to be a universal language. It can be used to portray something beautiful and uplifting, or to portray a tragedy to motivate and move people to act. To motivate them to help in some way as in Picasso's "Guernica 1937". I have a wide range in creative interests, from most forms of painting- oil to watercolor and on to print forms, sculpture, photography, film and computer animation. Contact me for any creative projects you may have....

Dina Elsayed Imam - I've always found a great satisfaction in the action of watching and in turn in the process of recreating the experience. This continuous process of understanding through visual experience made my work lean towards a more personal and expressionistic style. But that kind of expressionism sprouts out of a genuine desire to transfer a much more realistic truths about what I depict in my paintings. I make no attempt to constrain my interest in a single subject matter. but till now My main concerns lay with the human body and its surrounding space & objects. ...

David Cuffari - I approach my work as a visual poem. Sometimes the meaning is simple and direct and other times it's more complex. I prefer to create work that is open-ended allowing the viewer their own interpretation of what I present. I am primarily a painter preferring to work in acrylics as it allows me to make rapid revisions which helps keep the work fresh and immediate. The over-arching theme of my artwork is the human condition. I see the fabric of life as woven in opposites. By employing dualities like order/chaos, rough/smooth textures, themes of life/death, controlled effects/happy accidents, rational/irrational imagery, I try to paint interesting pictures that allow the viewer to see the world a bit differently. I am also interested in the notion of time. I don't believe that time is linear but more like an echo. I try to avoid static imagery preferring to create a complex painting that unfolds as you look at it, with layers of imagery and meaning. I do this by preserving the process of editing and revision as I arrive at the final image. Most recently I've been proceeding without a pre-conceived ...

Steve Kiene - My art expresses fundamental cosmological and spiritual concepts such as the balances in nature, regeneration and growth, and the interdependence of all things. I want to express how man & nature are interconnected. In today's modern culture, many have forgotten, that all things, living and inert, have a part in our relationship with life itself. The tree branch carvings illustrate how man is just a branch of the larger organic cosmos. Where Man and Nature become one....

Patrick Sean Kelley - Behind the Art There is nothing more intimidating than standing in front of a blank canvas and wondering what it will become. There is also nothing more exhilarating. As I begin to apply paint to canvas I find my work seems to be in continuous motion. Always changing. Always progressing. Much like the oil paints that actually embody my visions. I am influenced by many places, things, people and of course, many artists. My latest work is changing yet again. The palette has become softer more jewel toned and the subjects more somber. They speak to me as I paint each stroke awaiting life on the canvas. I am clearly influenced by some of the more modern masters like, Klimpt, Kandinsky, Mirot, Caldwell and as always, Picasso. The art is Inspired by the subject. By a woman's beauty as it is seen and felt both internally and externally. The images in my vision actually seem to mask their true identities as they glance out at the viewer exuding an air of aloofness and mystique. Each stroke is painstakingly smoothed and controlled to create subtle dimensions and color that create the mysterious creatures that appear to come to life on ...
