Artwork Description:
I love classical music, and I often put it into my paintings. This work is one of a series showing Beethoven in different cities or countries. He didn't always visit them in real life (like in my painting Beethoven in New York), but I connect parts of his music with memories of those places, I lived or stayed there.
This work shows Beethoven in Limburg, a province in the south of Holland between the Belgian and German border. I spent part of my childhood there. It has an old and very rich culture, dating back far before the time of he Romans, and florished in the Middle Ages. Being there is being surrounded by art and history. It is a very green and lush province, with hills and orchards and half timbered houses and castles and churches from over a period of 2000 years old.
I also have paintings and drawings of Bach, Mozart, Mahler and other composers, showing different cities and places in Europe.
