Artwork Description:

The Golem of Prague is a theme which I have worked on for many years,in oil, on paper, small and large, especially after I had visited the old, mystic city of Prague. According to an old legend Rabbi Loeb of Prague created a homunculus to ward of antisemitic attacks of the ghetto, in 16th century. This became the background of a vast body of tales, novels, poems and plays. One of the better ones in my opinion is the novel The Golem by Gustav Meyrink. Read it in German, if you can, the language is beautiful, but there is an English translation as well. The large painting you see here does not exist anymore. It was one of my best works, but it was destroyed by a mentally ill man while being exhibited in a synagogue. That did not stop me, however, from making different ones. I take commisions to work with this theme, so please contact me and we talk about it. A work of this type and size would cost approximately $10.000, but size etc. can be discussed.
