Artists Describing Their Art:
Mary Ruden - My work is an outward expression for my love of color; and the many textures, patterns, and forms seen in nature. With my background in the medical field, I have studied the complexities of the human body, and am particularly interested in this, and in all biology-oriented projects. My compositions contain actual proportions and mathematical sequences as seen in biological subjects such as butterfly wings, flowers, fruits, scientific and medical subjects. Themes in my art focus on natural, scientific, and medical subjects. The sustainability of several species in nature is depicted in some of my butterfly pieces. Butterflies are also a metaphor for the spirit, a journey in life, a new beginning, or the imagination. My work in Photo-Illustration has many applications for exteriors and interiors: durable vinylized prints which can wrap around columns, span large walls, be made into backlit'Duratrans', transparency light-boxes. Atrium environments are excellent areas for showcasing a photography product with a Plexiglas covering that has been heat-curved; these pieces can hung, or wall-mounted.'Green' applications such as solar electricity for low-voltage LED lights are an approach to lighting. My projects reside in State Parks, Botanical Gardens, government building lobbies, ...

Much of my work I try to make light, colorful and fun, and even somewhat premitive with a touch of fantasy. Rustic little cabin scenes, and most seascapes perhaps show this best. Landscapes--mountains, trees, ocean and beach scenes, these are my favorite subjects. I prefer to work quite small. Most paintings and drawings come with wooden 11"X14" frames and hand selected colored mattes. These smaller sized works I have found to be excellent for creating pictures that are both colorful enough and detailed enough to carry an "impact". A few fine art's photographs taken back in the late eighties, some of which were published by a national calendar company in 1989 and 90 are also offered here. Those hundreds of hours looking ...
