Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...
Ann Langdon - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Ann R Langdon has been cutting and shaping canvas for many years, moving from stretchers to her more recent wall hangings. She is a colorist who also loves texture and tension. Both her paintings and prints have won many awards across the country and have been exhibited throughout the United Staes as well as in Kenya, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Her works are included in various public and private collections. Langdon has a BA from Connecticut College where her studies began in the sciences. As she moved into Fine Arts, her interest in substructures moved with her. Dissection of a laboratory animal became dissection of a canvas in search of the underlying truth of the creative spirit. Langdon also holds an MA with a focus on Art from Wesleyan University. "I have long been fascinated with texture and surface: texture as reflecting something organic; surface as covering over an unseen structure or personality. I combine this tactile element with my long-standing search for a visual representation of the human psyche, the human spirit--especially as such images relate to women and their life experiences. Donald Mccray - I tend to focus on everyday observations of the world, real and imaginary. I want to make what I hope is a strong visual statement that will stand the test of time. I have a fondness for working in black and white as a tribute to the early masters. As I have said previously, print making is my favorite form of art; mainly because, you have to be a proficient draftsman, understanding line quality, texture, form, pressure, shade, tonality, perspective, design, surface tension and irregularities. My old professor (Lee Baxter Davis) at East Texas State University never let me forget figure ground relationships, and his theories for sequential values. The other side of my artistic palette is very comfortable when working with color, relationship, and harmony. My main desire when working with traditional , or digital photography with no digital enhancements is to capture a moment in time , and space. I am inspired by atmospheric depth, movement, design, lines, and shapes. I also enjoy the more experimental side of creating photography with a simple pin hole camera; also known as, a camera obscures.
