  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Amit Bar - In 1950 I was born in Kibbutz Kfar Hamaccabi, Israel, where I lived until 1988. As a kibbutz-member I was not able to take a complete study at an art-college. Therefore I followed evening-lessons drawing for many years. In 1984 I finally got the permission to study creative art at the university. My study at the university of Haifa was combined with Comparative Literature and took three years. I have learned there a lot about various forms of Creative Art. As follows, I decided to dedicate my interest on photography. My final project was children photography. Since 1988 I live in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, and work as a freelance-photographer and painter. In my commercial work I take photographs for a stock agency and make commissioned work. Wishing to combine my photography with drawing and painting, I began to mix them in my artistic work. It began in 1992 with photo collages and took another form in 1996 with body-paintings. Thank you very much for your visit. I wish you lots of pleasure on my gallery and my site, at www.amitbar.com! Amit Bar....

Corrie Ancone - Artist statement : "I don't care for the certainty of what's in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought before or thereafter. Between the certain and the uncertain there is a possible space, as in dreams and fables. Heavily influenced by mythology, nature and the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists, Impressionists and Baroque artists, my creativity stems from my lust for finding and exploring sympathies between the human body, the landscape and its textures. Oscillating between transparency and opacity, colours and images collide in my work, creating new visual and emotional images, often painterly and somewhat surreal, which affect perceptions of natural reality. This is sometimes described as 'synthetic realism'." Corrie Ancone ...

John Canning - The artwork of John Canning is a vehicle for a wide ranging regional tour; and as it discovers and reveals an eclectic array of architectual styles, vegetation, figurative and color combinations, it delivers diversity. Through intense observation and deft rendering of natural lighting and atmospherics, John moves beyond mere structure and arrives at a true sense of place... The original works of John Canning are paintings & drawings created with watercolors, color/graphite pencils, pastels, charcoals, India inks and sepia embellished photographic transfers Created on bright white cold pressed fine textured art board or bright white 300-lb,100% cotton cold pressed archival watercolor paper Collectors may purchase existing originals, or have a commissioned piece created Limited edition hand-embellished, signed and numbered prints are available on bright white, 100% cotton, 300 weight textured archival papers,or on white surfaced medium-textured canvas All Fine Art Reproductions are personally printed, & hand-pulled by the artist. Posters published by Winn Devon Art Group. ...

Harvey Horowitz - The artistic philosophy that has inspired me in composing my photographs over the last fifty plus years is really quite simple: It is to capture something extraordinary in what is otherwise commonplace to the casual observer. I am fortunate that the gallery which represents me in Montreal, Beaux Arts David Astrof, has shared my point of view. While the artist's conception is important in-so-far-as it expresses something original (and/or freshens how we perceive the world around us), I believe it is equally important that the concept be inspiring and not merely cleverly unique. Photography is not currently my main source of income. My livelihood is management consultation work which takes me around the world. It is traveling, with its expatriate experience of being apart from the familiar, which infects my vision and shapes my choice of perspective. This fuels my inspiration to create a photograph imbued with the magic of that particular setting at that particular moment in time. While travel is a big part of what motivates my creative process, it is this "stranger in a strange land" experience which influences all my work. In my last solo exhibition with Beaux Arts David Astrof, ...

Steven Derks - Artist Statement: Color field Paintings & Gridscapes My work is best described as accidental beauty or Shibui as the Japanese call it. It's my job to reconstruct those accidents with diverse methods yet a consistent result. The two most important tools in my work are a stick to push and pull paint around, and the sun, to accelerate the drying. The desert is the perfect place to make this work. While the painting is in the sun cracking and crazing may happen. Placing a painting in the sun to dry is similar to putting ceramics in a kiln. I can anticipate the results but I can't always predict what will happen. Picasso used to say, " Painting is stronger than me. It makes me do things I normally wouldn't do". I'm influenced by Turners skies, Rothko's compositions, and Richter's method of pulling paint. STEVEN DERKS ...
