  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Steven Poe - My artwork uses expansive digital technology to represent dreams and other ways of knowing, as I try to understand my world around me. The images represented here in this exhibit are from a "Buddha Nature" series that I am working on. In the process of this series I am asking questions. The global economy and multicultural societies are increasingly accepted norms. Will an integrated spirituality evolve as well? Is polytheism really possible? As artists evolve a global mind, and mature past the self-conscious movement, will art play a responsible role in societies direction? While the technologies I use are complex and the questions I am asking are deep and serious, the goals are simplicity in design and composition with an attitude of fun and adventure. For if I take myself seriously the results would be disastrous. Please visit my website (www.stevenpoe.com) to see more photographic works and read more about my evolving theory of art from a systems perspective. ...

Manolis Tsantakis - The subject "Woman and Nature" which is the title of my photographs, It becomes an endless source of inspiration. Nature is perfect but also so fickle. The lighting and weather interchanges during a day could be unbelievable. Nature some times has a melancholic mood, but it could also elevate your senses. It offers tranquility and happiness, but also fear and insecurity. Woman, as a female gender by nature, matches perfectly with Nature, and it create within me, exactly the same feelings. It is a constant challenge for me, to tie together in perfect harmony these two live elements and create images of dreams and fantasy. ...

Amit Bar - In 1950 I was born in Kibbutz Kfar Hamaccabi, Israel, where I lived until 1988. As a kibbutz-member I was not able to take a complete study at an art-college. Therefore I followed evening-lessons drawing for many years. In 1984 I finally got the permission to study creative art at the university. My study at the university of Haifa was combined with Comparative Literature and took three years. I have learned there a lot about various forms of Creative Art. As follows, I decided to dedicate my interest on photography. My final project was children photography. Since 1988 I live in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, and work as a freelance-photographer and painter. In my commercial work I take photographs for a stock agency and make commissioned work. Wishing to combine my photography with drawing and painting, I began to mix them in my artistic work. It began in 1992 with photo collages and took another form in 1996 with body-paintings. Thank you very much for your visit. I wish you lots of pleasure on my gallery and my site, at www.amitbar.com! Amit Bar....

Corrie Ancone - Artist statement : "I don't care for the certainty of what's in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought before or thereafter. Between the certain and the uncertain there is a possible space, as in dreams and fables. Heavily influenced by mythology, nature and the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists, Impressionists and Baroque artists, my creativity stems from my lust for finding and exploring sympathies between the human body, the landscape and its textures. Oscillating between transparency and opacity, colours and images collide in my work, creating new visual and emotional images, often painterly and somewhat surreal, which affect perceptions of natural reality. This is sometimes described as 'synthetic realism'." Corrie Ancone ...

Steve Buchanan - My work has primarily dealt with details of common objects. Lately however I've been focusing more on wider views and showing idealistic and anti-idealistic views side by side. I respect the power of so called "pretty pictures" and the emotional affect they can have on people but at the same time I'm concerned that pretty pictures, especially nature photos, lull viewers into a sense that everything is good. Everything is not. I propose no solutions but work hard to inform about these problems. Information is the first step in correction. Watch this space for more....
