Artwork Description:
This work considers the oft underestimated power and influence of the women in African societies, where sovereignty of the crown (usually afforded the male) is of the highest order. Due to the lighting, the specific identity of the sitter is hidden, thereby rendering her as a symbol, one of great respect and pride. This image was taken into the permanent collection of the New York Public Library (Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture), 1978, and reside in several private colections as well. .
