Artwork Description:
"If Tao is so unlike God, a Western conception, is Tao like Brahman [ of Advaita Vedanta ], another oriental conception ? Both are thought of as a changeless ultimate source of all. Both are alike in being impersonal, impartial, incapable of being influenced, and ever available for all to use, though indifferent as to whether they are used or not. They are also alike in being that to which all things come home at last, and in existing within persons, Tao as tao, Brahman as atman or jiva. But there are differences also. Brahman is an eternal, i. e., timeless, unity whose real nature is to remain unstirred. Tao, on the other hand, is essentially temporal, omni-temporal or everlasting, to be sure, but always acting in temporal cycles with beginnings and endings." [ Archie J. Bahm ]
