After being asked, “Why are
you trying to protect your
audience?” I realized, not
only was I trying to protect
my audience, but more
importantly I was trying to
protect myself from what was
really happening in my life.
The discoveries I was
“silently” making were
actually repressing my
creative process, and the
shift to challenge that
protection is uncovering an
intellectual side to my work,
in which I also become aware
of my own motives for my
