Artist Statement:
A photograph is all about a moment, that sixtieth of a second in time when the shutter clicks. The instant. Photographs are not a direct reflection of the world; but rather, an interpretation by the individual who took them. Photographers show us what they want us to see. They control what we believe about thing. They take a moment in time and trap it into a frame where it becomes locked to forever be controlled by outside interpretation. Anyone can become beautiful in a photograph, and the most beautiful can be turned into visions of horror. I enjoy this “rediscovery” most about my work. The image is not about the person in the photograph but commentary straight from the photographer.
I often hear photography described as “painting with light,” and I think that is an accurate description of the art form, but I am not a painter. I am a photographer striving constantly to reinvent the world around me so that everyone can understand how I see. Photography rarely tells us the truth, but sometimes we are lucky enough to catch that one moment that tells us more about ourselves than we’ve realized. ...
