Artist Statement:
MARS SERIES
Mars has teased the
imagination ever since the
first astronomers, unnamed and
lost in the dust of history,
began serious study of the
night sky. Unlike the
countless other white lights
in the sky, Mars doesnīt
flicker, itīs glow red.
I have been researching Mars
for the last seven years. In
1997, as a graduate student
studying art in New York, I
was becoming more and more
interested in geometry and
astronomical observations. It
was a very special year : On
the Surface of Mars at Ares
Vallis on July 4th, 1997 the
Pathfinder imager made the
first color mosaics of the
surface of Mars. Dark grey
rocks, brownish-red desert
soil, and a pale reddish sky.A
surface full of riverbeds and
basins that look like the
remnants of ancient lakes. Dry
for billions of years, this
landscape became suddenly an
ideal place to look for water.
This marked manīs return to
the surface of Mars after an
absence of more than 20 years,
a truly historical moment.

amazement as images of Mars,
which was hundreds of millions
of miles away, came down to
the earth in color for the ...
