Artist Statement:
Landscapes
When I first began to show my work, I like many artists after the work was finished reflected upon my art in search of a theme…a message. One might think Simple! I paint beautiful faces of women. Ok that‘s simple…well not really. They are much more than just faces. That statement in its’ self is what my present work is all about. My art is a mission to reflect the humanness found in each one of us.
As a little girl I was a magnet to images of beautiful women. I collected magazine after magazine and would cut and paste images of beauty, society, expressionist words and paste them into a collage on my bedroom wall. This wall spoke to me and grew with me as I grew. It spoke of what the world defined as beautiful and what was not. It was then that I began to question what I was being told via mass publications and advertising and what I knew from life experience.
Finding the hypocrisy in the magazines, I found myself wanting a conversation with these women on my walls. I wanted to ask them; how do you really feel today? Do ...
