MY EYES KEEP ME IN TROUBLE: Touring Group Exhibition Organized by CCNOA Brussels
Physics Room -
Christchurch, NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)

After 2step, minimalpop, Painted Objects, Double Exposure, and A Bit O’ White, MY EYES KEEP ME IN TROUBLE, running from August 20 -September 13, 2008 at Physics Room, is the sixth touring group exhibition organized by CCNOA Brussels, Belgium (www.ccnoa.org) and curated by Brussels-based German artist and curator Tilman. The exhibition premiered in April 2007 at Nieuwe Vide, Haarlem (NL), was on view at the Sydney College of the Arts Gallery from June–August 2008, coinciding with the opening weeks of the Biennial of Sydney, and the art works extending their concerns outside of the gallery space at The Physics Room will usher in some of the concerns SCAPE 2008 Biennial of Art in Public Space will inevitably raise. MY EYES KEEP ME IN TROUBLE will feature the work of 30 New Zealand and international artists. Read Indepth Article

Pascal Rousson: The House of Pain
Vegas Gallery -
London, UK United Kingdom

For his first solo show, Swiss/French artist Pascal Rousson presents work which elaborates upon Museum of the Dispossessed, an installation previously exhibited at Vegas Gallery as part of the Loose Booty exhibition. Rousson's work ironically debunks the ideologies and values embedded in Modernist art. His current installation scavenges elements and themes from his own work, including flea market and charity shop paintings reworked with satirical references to canonical Western artists, an interest in the metaphorical potential of American pulp and amateur D.I.Y. craft-making manuals, and a preoccupation with the constricting myth of The Great Artist as Rock Star, destined to burn out and leave a trail of beautiful, history-altering corpses. The Days of Their Lives: Photographs by Seifollah Samadian
Xerxes Fine Arts -
London, UK United Kingdom

A series of extraordinary images documenting the lives of ordinary Iranians
goes on show at Xerxes Fine Arts from August 19 through September 12, 2008. Seifollah Samadian’s The Days of Their Lives explores the everyday existence of the Iranian populace, photographed as they participate in organised events and parades. At once haunting and provocative, the series of eighteen images reveals another face of Iran and offers a subtle socio-economic commentary on a world seldom seen by
outsiders. Highly-regarded internationally as a cinematographer and art director as well as a photographer, who has worked
with directors such as Martin Scorsese and Abbas Kiarostami, Samadian came to the forefront of critical attention in
the wave of Iranian photography that gained momentum in the arts scene following the end of the Iran-Iraq war. In
the drive to document events that followed, Samadian became Professor of Photojournalism at the University of
Tehran and is today Publisher and Editor-in-chief of the Iranian cultural magazine, Tassvir.

Artblogs - Art Blogs:

Blame The Economy
Michael Corbin, USA
It's almost like slowing down to watch a car wreck ... you MUST see what's happening. This is the only way that I can describe my pseudo-fascination with the art market. Here's how it happens ...
I'm either flipping through the newspaper, watching television or surfing online and I come across something like ... "ARE RECESSION FEARS COOLING THE ART MARKET?" or "THE ECONOMY AND ITS CHILLING EFFECTS ON COLLECTORS." Suddenly, I slow myself down and settle in for closer examination. How can you NOT get caught up in the creative, editorial swirl?
It's funny, because I wanted to try to go to Art DC this year, but then I read that it was cancelled. That's a shame. This would've been only the second year for that fair. Why did organizers cancel it? They blamed the economy, of course.
