Artist Statement:
I am interested in the process of growth, transformation, and deterioration, so much of my work looks at the structure of living organisms using natural surfaces and materials. I paint images of insects, skin, fossils and other natural surfaces using beeswax, sediment, ashes, acrylic and raw pigments.
As a painter, I incorporate the passage of time into my work, and each layer documents a session spent with the work. The action of layering sediments and pigments is similar to natural formations and geologic structures slowly formed over time. In this way, life becomes a part of the work, and time spent with the work is a way to explore my own fascination with nature and other living organisms.
