Artist Statement:
The Coffee Culture Series is painted mostly in coffee with some watercolor or oil under painting. The series depicts aspects of coffee culture from it’s reemergence with the corporate giants and the family stand you visit on the corner to the fair trade growers of Guatemala.
The Coffee Culture Series started out literally as a joke made about modern art while a friend held up a napkin stained with a coffee ring and has grown to a multifaceted series that continues to offer interesting subject matter. Any time you explore and compare life-styles of people from different walks of life you find stories that at the core you can relate too. This leads to understanding and understanding leads to good communication.
Seattle, the new self-proclaimed coffee capital of the world, is just a part of the second largest legal industry in the world. The coffee industry spans the globe producing beans in about 80 countries. With Ezju’s interest in communication and understanding his own and other cultures, coffee as a subject and medium seemed to fall into place with living in Seattle.
