Artist Statement:
I am a fine-art photographer. I received my MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology. For over thirty years, I have been photographing the lands and peoples of the American West and Southwest. I work almost exclusively in black and white, using a 5x7 inch view camera mounted on a tripod with vintage 1930’s lenses. I direct the New Mexico Photography Field School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My main source of income is through the sales of original photographs to collectors, galleries, and museums. My photographs are collected by private and public institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Ransom Center, William Benton Museum of Art, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, and Southern Methodist University. I have been fortunate to receive significant support for my photographic work from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Martin Foundation for the Creative Arts, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the McCune Charitable Foundation and New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities.
In the early ‘90’s I began work on The Morada Photographic Survey project: my goal was to photograph moradas, the chapter houses belonging to the elusive Penitente Brotherhood of New Mexico and Colorado. Photographs were published in a ...
