Artist Statement:
I’ve always been creative,
though my interest in art
didn’t spawn until I was
sixteen. After high school, I
enrolled in Riverside
Community College where I
majored in Fine Art and
studied under Dayna Mason, who
is currently a guest
instructor in Oxford, England.
My first endeavors were with
performance art and murals.
However, in 1989 I found my
niche and my love: oils. I
love the control, brilliance
of colours as well as the
unique and magnificent odor of
them.
The versatility of oils allows
me to convey thoughts,
desires, reality and dreams. I
feel that I’m able to truly
express emotion through the
canvas. Though recently I’ve
discovered a certain affinity
for metal. In this, I have
begun doing metal sculpture by
means of weld. The strength,
performance, as well as the
entire process of creating the
sculpture is both relaxing and
exhilarating.
I had spent a great deal of my
life studying (and admiring)
the works of Picasso, but
further influences include
Dali and Patrick Nagel. I
think much of my work reflects
my love of Picasso as well as
my fondness for the female
figure. Which has been a long
time coming… ...
