Artist Statement:
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In September two years ago I
began my professional art
career by participating in the
Pastel Society of America. A
career I started at the usual
time was put on hold for 20
years as I fought my own
character and abilities and,
like all the baby boomers,
sought myself. Much like one a
religious experience, as
midlife hit, my muse erupted.
I had the tools under my belt,
but never, until this moment
in time, felt I had the
statements to make with them.
I discovered the open studio
at the Scottsdale Artist’s
School and began refreshing my
skills. The statement was
still not there. I observed
and portrayed. I liken my
work to that of an essay or
journal entry: I see the same
things you do but try to show
it to you in a different,
hopefully clearer and brighter
light.
In September, as I met artist
friends in the Village,
experienced theater and
engorged my eyes at the museum
the stirring began.
My ticket home was on the
15th. On the 11th the world
changed.
Safe in my friends’ apartment
near Carnegie Hall, I smelled
jet fuel, but not burning
