Artist Statement:
National Geographic Magazine chose Joanne in October 2000 as the exclusive photographer to promote its "Explorer" TV show titled "Top Dogs," a film on the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Joanne's work was accepted into the 2000 and most recently, 2001 "Art Show At The Dog Show", a prestigious juried fine arts competition devoted to the dog. All of Joanne's 2000 entries were then chosen for the Special Exhibit of Selected Works on display at the AKC Museum of the Dog.
Joanne's newest computer art is a series entitled "Tapestry." The work involves her own photography which is digitally manipulated into various fabrics and textures to create a final tapestry feel. Her inspiration for the series derives from the tapestry reproductions she collects of the "Lady and the Unicorn" tapestries of c.1450 - all of which depict a greyhound somewhere in the scene.
Contrary to her digital Tapestry Series, Joanne's traditional photography focuses on people and animals found in their natural environment.
Joanne is in her sixth year as a Professor of Digital Photography at NYC's School of Visual Arts....
