Artist Statement:
For the past decade, my artwork has concentrated on various social and philosophical issues, such as homelessness and the environment. This concentration stems from the position that art is not limited to the Modernist's view of art for art's sake.
Art is for Life's sake.
Art can be a companion, a teacher, an act of spiritual expression.
I do not view art as a commodity.
In my overall artistic efforts, I have endeavored to maintain an unpredictable quality in my work. As a result, my painting style is an eclectic one, ranging from nonrepresentational to symbolic to photo-realistic. Whichever style I choose is dependent upon the subject and the purpose of the individual piece or installation. The equilateral triangle format currently serves as a unifying visual element.
This diverse approach is a definite reaction to the "Anything Goes (but not really)" attitude of the art-world elite. Needless to say, my approach has left critics in a quandary, with no obvious peg-hole into which they can stash me.
My current project, Reclamation Marks utilizes this eclecticism to mirror the visual diversity of the central collaborative piece, The Voices of Many Hearth Mosaic, which will include ...
