Artist Statement:

Through my art I have been looking towards myself, trying to understand the emotionalist in me. I feel that by facing my obsessions,repressions and fears and making monuments of them, rather than denying them and letting them eat me alive, has helped me to stand back and see myself. My figurative sculptures of ceramic and bronze are primarily female. This female form is not meant to be an expression of being a woman, but rather an expression of the traits associated with the feminie personality or the anima, a Jungian concept present in all people. It includes traits like receptiveness to the irrational, deep capacity for personal love, and depressed moods. I use the language of cartoon in my work because I feel it frees me from the demands of social and artistic decorum. In the cartoon, incongruities and inconsistencies are welcome, where in with life they are common but always somehow bring us down.
