Artist Statement:
Marlene Healey was born in
London, England. After a 3
year stay in Paris, France,
she moved to the United States
and spent 23 years in Phoenix,
Arizona. She now resides in
Seattle, Washington. She
started drawing and
experimenting with paints at
the early age of five years.
Since then she has achieved
success in many different art
forms including African dance,
performance art, costume
design, silk screening,
etching, mono printing and
mosaics, as well as bead work.
With each new challenge she
has tried to create something
fresh and exciting. Whether
bizarre or beautiful, her goal
has always been to capture a
harmonious balance between
texture, color and design with
a focal impact on all those
who are exposed to her work.
Healey first studied art at
Scottsdale and Mesa Community
Colleges in Arizona as well as
Arizona State University,
where she was the recipient of
the top award in the M.F.A.
and B.F.A. competition. As her
painting career unfolded,
Healey has had the opportunity
to master several different
styles of painting including
impressionism, surrealism and
neoclassical. Her current work
is a delicate balance of
textural abstraction and
figurative or realistic forms.
