Artist Statement:
Artists are haunted; we depict
a world that we try to
understand through art. We
struggle to understand a world
that is always in flux.
What I see in the world and
what I depict in my art is the
contradictions.
Destruction vs. Creation
Gentleness vs. Harshness
Nature vs. Technology
The universe is at odds with
itself.
Working as a portraitist,
still life, and figurative
artist, I try to depict the
beauty of the world as well as
it's brutality. There is an
existential openess to my work
that embodies humanism.
My theatrical work designing
sets and designing costumes
paved my way to humanism. By
analyzing scripts and
attempting to understand the
plights of the various
characters I have come to a
more open understanding of the
human race.
