Artist Statement:
I was born and raised in Grand
Rapids, Minnesota. My mother
interested me in art at a
young age, drawing animals,
portraits and landscapes in
pen and pencil. In 1997 I
graduated from Grand Rapids
High School and entered
college.
I came to Fargo, North Dakota
in the year 2000. My husband
and I were married in 2002. I
completed a Bachelor of
Science in Visual Arts at the
North Dakota State University
in Spring 2004. My
baccalaureate show "The Story
Inside" was exhibited in May
2004 with a total of 22 prints
and drawings.
I draw every day, it is a
compulsion. My drawings are
always in ink and begin with
a random rhythym upon the
paper. The drawings seem to
have a message to tell me.
They contain symbols, animals
and figures that are
themselves ideas. These ideas
interact together to form the
message. Sometimes the
message is universal, other
times it is something I am
trying to tell myself. The
drawings are a type of
"language" that cannot be
expressed fully in words. The
book "Leonardo's Ink Bottle"
has a good chapter on
Symbolist Art that I think
describes well this type of
randomly begun personal ...
