Artist Statement:
I take pictures because I
can’t help it. I want to
freeze forever a sublime
microsecond of light, emotion,
action or being. I like
seeing and showing others
unseen details that either
blur by too fast for the naked
brain to register or take
place in a time or a space too
difficult to experience. I
like seeing the world from a
different angle and I like to
share.
Taking pictures makes me
whole; it completes my
experience of life. If a tree
falls in the forest and I
don’t photograph it, did it
really happen or did I just
imagine it? “Of course” I say
and I can point to the fallen
tree as proof. But in ten
years when it has rotted away
or a parking lot has been
built over its bulldozed
resting place…did I really see
it? My life is a row of file
cabinets, filled to bursting
with pages of slides.
I still shoot only film.
Digital has taken some of the
magic out, it is also a
crutch. I’ll use crutches
when I’m old. When I make an
image on film, I am trusting
my skill and experience to ...
