Artist Statement:
Art and photography have stirred me since I was young - both remaining hobbies, until I reached middle-age. Mid-life seemed the right time to take my journey in a new direction and immerse myself, more completely, in artwork. An early piece, "Heartbeat of America", was published (internationally) in 2003, and won the Award of Distinction at the Gulf Breeze Art Festival in 2004. Two artworks juried, and kept for permanent display, at the National Museum of Naval Aviation is another "high" point. It has been interesting, successful, and personally fulfilling.
Other than a couple years of high school photojournalism, and a smattering of art classes in high school and college, I am self-taught. I've worked in pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolor, oils, and acrylics. Those experiences have allowed me to transition to digital painting using programs such as Right Hemisphere's Deep Paint and Adobe Photoshop.
Orca Studio is my vision of having my own place in the San Juan islands of Northwestern Washington. For now, Orca Studio is my "virtual reality" and a place for others to visit, view, and purchase my artwork. Someday visitors will have to take a boat, or floatplane, to "drop in." And, ...
