In brief, I am a Maine artist
who loves to paint people. I
have drawn, painted and
studied art all my life,
exploring numerous subjects
and media. But I love
rendering people best because
of the challenge of capturing
both an accurate likeness and
the personality of my subject,
conveyed in a gesture, pose or
expression. I particularly
enjoy children as subjects.
Childhood is fleeting and
precious and I delight in
painting candid moments in
time, working from photos of
children at play, exploring,
or relaxing, often with a pet.
There is a wonderful quality
of total absorbtion I often
see in children that I love to
capture. I prefer working
from photos of children
outdoors, surrounded by nature
and bathed in natural light.
I find the effects of light
and shadow fascinating, like
the Impressionists who have
always been my inspiration.
Another favorite subject is
parents interacting with their
children: reading, playing,
resting together.
Additionally, I do portraits
and candids of adults. I also
enjoy doing pet portraits.
I welcome painting commissions
in both pastel and oil. I
